wheels retreaded
world at my doorstep
jam gots a couple a few daze left
maybe we can all interpenetrate

the road at everybody's front door
we wake as beasts every morning
the dreams shredding as we rise
biked back from the car shop this morning
first time on a bike since early november
man that shit felt strange
after weeks of not being on a bike at all
6 miles - 28 degrees
i dressed warm
2 miles into the run discovered i was overdressed
you really just need to keep the wind out
i opened transcendental dialogue
with my lungs
and we laughed

actually just a
conception
pinned to a cliff
would b wild
in a storm
would be cool if you could
lower it and turn it into a boat
never could do this in usa

new year
just a #
never thought
id feel so
juiced this
far along the
path
hell i thought
id b ancient at
the turn of
the millenium
ugh
kinda settled in
never lived anyplace
this long, goin on
8 years in same apt./studio
this jam kinda like
a log of life
my great grand dad
wrote one back in the 1880's
ships paymaster in the orient
the older i get
the harder it is movin
was in cj's place in b'mo for 5 yrs
takoma park for 4
keep stayin places longer n longer
jammin
that holiday jam winding down
was kinda vanilla
thats cool
beats me all the poets
that dont participate
must b something they
dont like about jammin
its kinda a bad conotation
with musicians i know too
except for the jazz cats
and hip writers, the beat
been deep into
chinese poetry n china
this past week

hell yeah , mongolia
we got bone
let's carve some page
no metaphoric hoopy do needed
time & rhythm & spontaneity
on the money & on the mark
we can even bust a rhyme
& crack a rhythm
in these last days of the earth
cover the walls the stones the trees
with laughing words
there's a guy up here
who lived downstairs of my youngest son
i call him Free FireZone Frank
i think he may be a vietnam vet
in the winter he wears mongolian headgear
one of those rabbit fur lined pieces
that covers the whole head & neck except for the face
he's got the face of appalachia
he's friendly and don't work
so i figure there's a gov't pension in there somewhere
and i ain't ever heard him say
two words about himself
he'll ask about how you're doing if he knows you
ask you about your bike
i've never seen a woman around his place
never heard him talk about women
coarse or otherwise
saw him on the street just the other day
out on the snow & ice-covered sidewalks
and i waved said Hey Frank!
but he didn't see me because
i was in a car
and from the distance between us
all he probably saw was his own reflection
in the car windows
Happy New Year Frank
and ain't it a hell of a grand day ?

sunday morning
and all the pigeons in the road
to eat the salt
dog out taking a piss
and the sound of boogie-woogie piano
under grey skies
get up & move all over the place
i don't need to think about it anymore
i was born jammed
and got coffee in my wheels
flinging words up down & sideways
goin' from one to the other
what a mess !
what's next ?
what's next ?
i dare to be dead
but right now i'm workin' for the rent
damn i'm glad i ain't a dentist
or workin' a wrench in some place not big enough to turn your hand
the whole world helps me out
& i click the pebbles together
what a sound !
