Really cool photo, 68!
Where is that?

Wireman, I don't know how you do it. I couldn't drink sake and beer and party past midnight then get up at 4am and go to work. Your liver must be in better shape than mine. You must be a young buck.
I thought we were the same age.

Badlands...South Dakota. On the way out to Mount Rushmore.

I used to do what Wireman is talking about. Used is an automobile word these days ;)

Fun is past tense, a former kind of language, a different movie, a bigger font to read the directions when putting things together, hell, not worrying about how to put things together, left over parts, who cares, who cares fun is in the eye-of-the-participants, must be over fifty to catch a discount these days, but who's counting except the young punk behind the counter, he's counting the minutes before his fun starts...

found myself imagining Basho on a bike today - track frame - 700c tires - deep v dished rims - 3 speed internal gear hub ( he was dealing with mountains after all )
rear rack to strap things needed to -

he'd have to ditch the clogs though - no way he could pedal wearing those things -
quick! lets get up a collection and send him a pair of flat bottomed sneakers !

then, o yeah, an mp3 player so he could listen to shit like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEEzbFxEbB8 as he was surrendering to gravity coming down one of those God steep japanese mountains on Honshu -

can ya see that old man rounding a curve on one of those mountains? I know ya can - bike leaning at a 60 degree angle fighting tooth and nail to hold the groove - his eyeballs big as teacups - lips tight - the wind nothing but roar in his ears -

then sailing off the incline at the bottom still at speed looking around realizing he had made it all in one piece and singing at the top of his lungs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRVPLPFoJL0

i know you ca see it - are ya laughing yet because you can ?

PS - just as Basho was coming to the flats he looks down the road and sees a traveler there - as he got closer he saw the traveler had a young zen nun in one arm and the other arm stuck out with its thumb in the air -
Basho came to a halt and the traveler bowed - he said "My name's Crazy Cloud, how far to the next inn?" Basho said "We will find out together if you teach me that song you were singing."
Crazy Cloud said "sure, it goes like this," http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLZWJes08Z4
and off they went singing and the young zen nun smiling mysteriously 8)

later jammer!
mingo out -
jam on !

I'd pick you up if I saw you on the side of the road. In the sun, at night, on a two lane or on a dusty road. The pix above me (by one Mark Nazarenus) shows a 50's (maybe late 40's) pick up in the desert, a river in the background, no driver, once a driver, no more a driver, not even a horse, tumbleweeds, somewhere in Arizona or New Mexico or Baja or Death Valley, the valley we all will walk through at some point in our lives, All in the Valley of death rode the six hundred, and I will fear no evil. Not me after seeing your picture. You handsome devil.

i think Lee Mellon
that ol' Confederate General from Big Sur
is actually Dr. Sax in haiku disguise
a notion just come over me
i can't explain it
below zero again tonight
the term "polar vortex"
has an erotic rig to my ear
or a pornographic bang
graffiti - more Latin
sex for money might be
the most honest approach
to the subject
everything has the same appearance
in the dark
what would it feel like
to be in a pitch dark ocean
full of pitch dark sharks?
i wouldn't want to be
a bicycle messenger
in Death Valley either
mingo out
jam on

lovely latinas so proud of their beautiful
long tresses
they work with us guys
lovely women
accepted
totally feminine
especially when they let their hair down
transforming into goddesses
in the parking lot
they call me poppa
i smile 8)
