just back from a bike ride
munching Mission tortilla rounds
& quaffing cold tea
tons of humidity out there
even this late in the afternoon
wind out of the south
man I could eat the hell
out of some raisins 'bout now
gonna have to settle for
a banana i think
a banana & ice tea
i'll be so damn healthy
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

started a journal
august the first
recording my walks
the particulars, weather
where, length
strangers met, animals
43 days in a row so far
my rule is simple
I must put my boots on every day
and give it a go, fatigue
is not an excuse or the climate
or the time of day
I bought a fine carved stick
that feels like it belongs
in my hand, maple with tight knots
and wonderful twists
carved out by nature
and there's my big floppy hat
with ventilation
and my bandana to wipe the sweat
and that's it, don't need
a lot of equipment just a little
get-up-and-go
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

that's the way you do it
you play the git tar on
the MTV, you recite nursery rhymes
hey diddle where's that cat
with the fiddle, simon sez
speak like an orator of nonsense
til all the pieces fall into place
rap on brother, rap on
turn that spoken word into art
leave nothing on the table
play them healthy mind games
truck like a doo dah man
one big foot in front of the other
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

boundless
astounded
leaping tall buildings
slipping under the

and be quick
