jam with myself
on Jack's jitterbug keyboard

I don't need to jam
don't need anything
I feel like a jerk
but only when I am high
rest of the time I am a hell of a nice guy

all I need is my bike
jam with the road
dry road and sun shine today
my kind of trucking

where is you wireman?
hammer hammer

No, you were right! I was wrong! It just turned December 22nd at midnight. I thought the Solstice was the 21st!

We were right after all. Google knows everything.
Solstice 2017 was at 11:28 AM on
Thursday, December 21
Isn't it always on the 21st?

It's apt to drift a bit from year to year because of vagaries in the Earth's orbit. If we and the sun were the only objects in the universe, it'd take place at the exact same time every year, but gravitational perturbations from other bodies in the solar system (even cosmic dust) affect our rates of rotation & revolution, so the precise moment (whatever that means) is prone to change slightly. Hey, Christmas Day was chosen arbitrarily by one of the early popes in an attempt to co-opt the pagan solstice bacchanals - close enough for me! Here's to the beginning of winter's end!

I no longer know the seasons
i knew as a boy...they were distinct
I dressed a certain way to deliver my newspapers
but it will 60 degrees in the mid-atlantic today
and I still have cord-wood from last year
that never happened before. I'd use it up
and buy some more, but this is a new day
where you can't really pack up your spring
and summer stuff in boxes anymore, you
might need it from one day to the next
I used to wire cardboard boxes to my sled
to deliver The News American, but that's gone too
only one newspaper in town these days
it happened before all the electronica
they were forced out by the changing tides
....maybe you could say...the changing weather
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

the plagues of the season are upon us...
yesterday... sleet, freezing rain...
tonight... six inches of snow...
chased by bitter cold
single digits by midweek
(and that's F, not C)
nothing to do but roll with it
take it as it comes
boreal jam...
I'll save the water I set aside
just in case...
I'll keep the car near the road
just in case...
been here before
familiar jam
winter in New England

used to like to visit my ex-mother-in-law
in Rutland Vermont. or that was the closest
town most folks heard of, but to be exact
she lived in the township of Mt. Holly
up the road from Star Lake where the xmas
party was like a Norman Rockwell painting
with a giant bonfire on the lake, it was like
Whoville in the Grinch story...happy carolers
and warm apple cider, and ice skating
and magnificent long scarfs that flew out
like flags of celebration, kids galore
happy sounds, small town revelry, no airs
beyond the frozen breath of Christmas
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading
