My mother also collected rocks from places she'd been - and I was under strict orders to do the same whenever my job required me to travel. Now that she's departed, I can confess that I forgot to bring her a memento of a trip to Albuquerque - but a stone I picked up at Logan airport in Boston seemed to please her & kept me in her good graces.

When we moved her into assisted living, we had to release most of them back into the wild.
