Thinking of a friend

Post by judih » November 19th, 2004, 5:31 am

this is a lonely trail
i knew there'd be days like these
long paths to traverse
cobblestones in my shoes
hurdles silent and sure

i once had a friend
who sang the moments fine
and a donkey to smuggle the load
well-stocked verse
fine beaujolais
books and stocking caps

trio of wanderers
lost loves left behind
nothing to burden us
but sweet sunlight and sky

but days like these
when no one walks this way
it's a grey heart that squeaks its tune
and a mind that scrapes my soul's hull

Fine metaphors, J.

A strong, clear, well-crafted lament.
