The essence of Action Poetry is speed, spontaneity and
responsiveness to others in the room.

Thanx for the link, jimbo...

I remember that "dust" piece. That may have been my first attempted po-em.

Anywayz.... It used to be so great to watch those threads unfold and scroll out... yeah... the energy of it...

With so many boards, the webmasters "bit off more than they could chew", or so it seems. Understandable. In July '04 I knew the site would never come back the way it was. I knew they would ax most of the live boards, but I didn't think they'd ax ALL of them... at the very least "Action Poetry" should be a true, live interactive board, right? They need to relax the heavy-handed approach on that board, IMO. I mean, they could always have another more tightly-controlled board for more "composed" creative writing. Nothing wrong with that. But "Action Poetry" that can take over 24 hours just to appear on the screen??.... Hmmm.... Not buying it.

I leave the highway for awhile
the desert is bursting with light
over that rise, gearing down for a portal
a dub song emanating from the dash
turned down low yet echoing thru the canyon
a shot of whiskey and an escape in progress
I was told there's no sign of god 20 miles into dust
but I prefer to see for myself

vegas was a flash burned into my eyelids
but those bleak slopes beneath its powerlines...
glowing, ambitious, seductive curves bending space
undulating roundscapes washing over bare mountains
prodigious curls upward even into other climates
odd lumps poking out of preposterous ramps
my telling real illusions

so I crest over that rise...
the earth suddenly drops away in a divine perfect arc
the far slope is an ethereal vision, a sculpture
its muted shapes feathered into a dream...
reaching the far side is reaching the dream
I want the dream, so I follow the great arc
I plod thru a hundred washes for hours
I make that far slope, but I'm still not there
now I notice that the dream is behind me
I must have missed it as I went by
maybe it was the whiskey...

cool.... yeah, i'm pretty sure it was my 1st poem attempt, originally posted in a shorter version on 2/21/03 on the old A.P. board. I remember the excitement when someone replied within 20 or 30 minutes or so... "luke t/ drifter" (from Australia, I think), if I remember right... that was just after i first joined LK. I still remember who replied to my first post, a couple weeks before that... Kreddible Trout and Foolish Paeter (Marksman 45)... ah yes.. Nice find...

I can use all the help I can get
Professional or Poetic
R.I.P. A.P.
R.I.P. Haiku Board
R.I.P. the site formerly known as litkicks.
I have read more poetry in the past six years than I have in the previous sixty.

The place was what it was because of who Levi was.
We were moths drawn to his flame.
Such a galaxy of stars he attracted

Looking for Jota's tribute to him and I found this
Hello PosterToasters. Call me Jota. I used to live at litkicks but I've run away. Stay tuned for loony postertoaster rants from a West Coast soul brother.

Hmmm... jota's publishing his novel online? Not a good idea, in my opinion. But what do I know?

So much about likicks these days is about getting published.
I suppose it goes with the territory of New York City.
It beats me.
It seems better to be read than published.
But I am old
and not much ambitious
as I used to be
when I first started posting to litkicks.

I was talking about the link you posted to jota's blog. I wasn't talking about litkicks.
