Wireman sculpture looking
from the red wall into the room
he's found his place here among
the the paintings and photos
he keeps watch, a sentry of artistic endeavor
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Puzzling places
Leaving traces
Missing pieces
An empty space
Up in the air
One day at a time
Where's this all going?
Perhaps the outskirts of Mongolia
Where the camels roam
The Tuvan throat singers take it
to another level, I dunno :)
me I feel like I'm becoming some kinda Kung fu t.v. Priest.....

when they
do that thing
in their throat
all of Tibet
blows right off
the map
the manes of
all the horses
in Mongolia
stand straight out
from their necks
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

the sun's return
never more unclear
I want to believe she will be
faithful, but maybe
she will have had enough...
met a man on the trail
seemed nice enough, friendly
smile, but quickly without
warning he explained to me
that greenhouse gases were a hoax
and I was so confused
a nature lover denying the science
as if science was the same as feelings
and personal beliefs always Trump
legitimate proof, and then begins
to tell about how grapes used to grow
in Greenland and that proves this is just
a cyclical thing, and I say we need to deal
with what is happening right now friend
the polar ice caps are melting, the sea
is rising, the earth cannot continue to heat up
at this rate without dire consequences
and he says it's god's will brother
and I say really ?....all of this was for nothing ?
you mean you raised your family
knowing all along that things would end abruptly
he said who am I to interfere with god's plan
I said what if you are wrong....what if your denial
will leave your kids and grandkids in a god forsaken hell
on earth....he replied, if god wants to move hell
to earth, that his business...i said never mind
nice chatting with you, I gotta be off
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

well... cyclical, yes... but--- http://www.xkcd.com/1732/

(take the time to scroll all the way down)

Herr Dog & I bumped into our own "character" on a rail-trail a few days ago. We started chatting amiably enough, but then he proceeds to chide me for failing to take proper precautions, and produces a can of bear spray. Then I notice he's also packing heat - maybe a 9mm - and that because he saw a bear once, I'm crazy to be out here unarmed. I told him I've been hiking these trails for nearly 40 years now, and during that time I think I saw one bear, but can't be sure because it was running away from me and disappearing into the brush too quickly to get a positive ID. City folk......

i been
i been
knitting milky words
to a letter
to a wall
to a window
house reaction
jumpy square bombs
how splendid the selection
some days huge,
synonymous,
natural,
tight -
other days i'm finding
where the wind has dropped
a single frozen stiff dry leaf
into the tracks i made the day before
got to be a metaphor
in there somewhere
no loud wealth in my footprints
just astonishment
to scare the shit out of
myself all the damn time
the mistake does not exist
river finally iced over
i been watching the ice
from both banks
creeping toward itself
day by day & night by night
i bray
and the wind cries
ain't no downtown up here
my coonhound died did i tell ya?
2nd of november put him in the ground
got a 12 yr old beagle now
whole different world
whole different world
he sings out over every scent
what drifts up his nose
and if he can't catch any scent
means nothing no nothing
has moved in the forest
or across the fields
in the past 24 hrs
I've made adjustments
but it ain't been easy
i'm glad i'm not the one
who discovered that clams got legs
i fork the wind with sass
how many bangs
might be left
in my stash?
sure 'nough one of them
will be the last
'til then i'm here
under the ocean
or in the air
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

limbo day by day
day to day continually
do you understand my words?
barking incessant, lying around
the snivelish scent of aluminum
a forest of whippoorwill movement
darkness cracks the chill night air
bemused at the barking hounds
beneath the cold bush
containing the hare
beagles running away looking
back in reverie upon their masters
in uncontrollable ecstasy
baying at the moon in its
underlying demented demeanor
me I feel like I'm becoming some kinda Kung fu t.v. Priest.....

the stranger winked
getting old ain't for sissies
I dig where he's at
can't help but wonder
'bout the future some days
but mostly just live for today
happy to wake up
happy to press on in meaningful ways
that aren't very sexy
it's a wonderful life
not like jimmy stewart's
but cool just the same
there are no miracles on 34th st,
just police sirens and gunfire,
but I'm doing ok
I'm doing just fine
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

getting old sucks
(so they say).....
glasses for up close
glasses for distance
arthritis
sagging pecs
aches
pains......
but ya know what:
I give zero fucks
nor a rat's ass
'bout all that
I'm still here
breathin'
climbin' hills
hikin' trails
I am my own man
with time to create
food in the fridge
oil in the furnace
and the lights are still on
so.......
if getting old sucks
then I am far happier
than I have a right to be
