boyhood pursuits -
who knew that some would last
a lifetime?
a friend's parents'
tape recorder
mock tales of terror
needing scripts
and sound effects........
my dad's kodak carousel
slide shows
with music.......
high school math lab
trying to write a game
via teletype
on dartmouth's mainframe
but lacking the knowledge
of basic physics
until college
and beyond......
career......
..............
who knew?

woke up
head pounding
tom tom and bass
doesn't seem right
to sleep the night
only to be assaulted
is my karma askew
did my karma run over
my dogma
did I piss of the sandman
or am i caught up
in the randomness of time
in all her permutations
the spinning clickety-clack
wheel of fortune
the red the black
the yin the yang
the ramma lamma ding dong
the cyclical evening-out
the roll of the dice
the laws of average
seven come eleven come a migraine
come heaven
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

good to see the wireman
wiring his way back to health
in faces of dawn, metal becomes
something else entirely
the mind twists the coils into art
and colleagues are heartened
that life is burning bright despite
the limitations
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

anyway afternoon
tailgate a teacup
sunlight below fish

I got me a bookend a cardsharp and playback
no way can I last
in need of an airlift, nobody newscaster
thunderbolt weekday firebreak
I'm on wheelbarrow wavelength
sharecropper with everything
but a passkey
breath it out

anyway evening jam

Deadlifting kettlebells
Swinging kettlebells
Squats with kettlebells
Pressing kettlebells
TRX rows, step-ups
Pushups, sit-ups, curls,
Downward dogs, upward dogs,
Crawling on hands and feet
Run, jump, climb the stairs,
Sprint around the building

Lifting barbells, dumbbells,
Head ringing like a Southern belle
Every muscle sore and more and more
to come.

Six weeks won't be enough.
Need to make it a lifestyle.
I'm tired but not tired enough.

let's go hiking
mary land has thousands
of mind-bending trails
was deep in the woods yesterday
no cars, planes, voices, people
just a few whitetails
and the takeoff of a majestic heron
and spider webs better than art , or
at least as cool....two hours
narrow trail named after a Jesse somebody
Jesse's Trail on the sign
and I wondered if Jesse was a dog or a man
grave marker at 450 feet
and the woods was lush and sensuous
like former lovers, well at least
that's the way I remember it
been too long, but let me not digress
do the woods jam, branch out
go out on a limb, leave it all behind
it's tree-mendous
tree jam

Well, thank God I'm not a dotard!

:D

.....
Yeah, let's ride bikes,
take hikes, lift weights
and dance. I like it all,
every chance I get.
I bet if you had a pair of
tap shoes you could do
a mean shuffle-off-to-buffalo!
Or you pedal, I'll tap,
and we'll all snap our fingers and go
walkin' down the wooded trail!
We'll just keep movin' and
inhale, exhale.

hiking
biking
lifting
dancing
walking, talking,
whatever
hear the lungs pant
feel the heart pound
and the sweat flow
and you know
it's all good
the animal lives
so the soul it contains
can marvel
at what is
so let's jam it up
feel the burn
while we can
