mornings are cooler
tomatoes still producing
the circumference shrinks down
but the taste holds fast and sweet
there is truth in the weather
she never lies, she bares herself
each morning, we feel her chill
time is her paramour , her seasoning
sprinkled over the plants in the garden
they know all to well their fate
the withering that comes with september
and october's yellowing, the orange of pumpkin
I don't remember any more who I was
a new man full of medicinal concoctions
parades around the house pretending to be me
he's slower and more awkward , he bumps
into the doorway, his perceptions are off
but he tries nonetheless, he smiles nonetheless
he is a man for all seasons despite his alterations
muscle memory and routines fake their way thru the day
nothing to complain about, just noticing the changes

but there is one that didnt simply go to sleep in her own bed

hatred born in ignorance and simplistic nonsense
her mindfulness wasn't enough
her peaceful demeanor was ignored
by barbarians
men and women without souls and eyes
without sense for the sentient
so smug and self-righteous
so eager to stop the hearts of innocent strangers
anxious to play deadly games not on a video screen this time
but for real, with the same killing mindset
and total disregard for trying to understand
that many on the other side of the fence only want peace
oblivious that some have transcended their childish simplicity
monsters with thoughtless notions and devotion
to following orders

the perpetual jam must go on like the wire-man
must go on about the stars and the orbs beyond
so I add to his legacy and type what comes to mind
because to me it s not so much the words as the effort
there is something special about the continuation
words strung out become the connection between
life as we know it and life that we can only imagine
I share myself with you and you do the same when you can
It is a story you see, the lore of poets, the jones of creation
this you see is more than a jam, it's a marmalade

winter
short days, long nights
cold and wet
gloom and desperation
the arctic wind
claws at the cabin

creation, determination
inspiration
this is our home

Saturday night
moon a big white ball
drawing my eyes
through the branches
to glimpse
the power of light
way down here on our
only planet
the one we seem to ignore
at times, but oh she's trying
to forgive us
by hanging on by threads
of neglect
and so I look for the joy
the love in the faces
of my circle
of connections
and take another hit
from the vaporizer
which starts me Blue Dreaming

from the bass next door

foraging for sustentance
traveling through the pathways
that wait for me
the journey can be arduous

what is someone long in the tooth to do
but search for meaning
what have I been doing here
what do i want to do going forward
or what do I do if I feel I'm sliding backwards

then what
how will i cope if it all gets worse
or will i even be aware enough to know
something dramatic has taken place
these are treks of old men, the zigzags
through the neural network of possiblities
the forks in the roads, the spooning long gone
I wonder where she is tonight, the knives

I played the spoons
in a bluegrass jam band,
kept the beat with taps to hands
and thighs, while another guy
blew on the mouth of a jug,
and a washboard rhythm master strummed.
We were the percussion section.

Played a bit of guitar and plucked a banjo too
in my time. All just memories now
illustrating this rhyme.

it was sitting on a shelf in the pantry of my mind
the lid popped open with a whooooosh
and out came these words.......

if you happened to be shopping for jam
it's not expensive, all you need is a wireless connection
