grey winter morn
bussin outa town
naked branches crackin goodbye
so cold my fingers barely feel
is that an old cigarette in my pocket
or a torn up phone number

pull it out to check
but then i'd have to turn away
and here i'm watching a scene
a painted norman rockwell reject
frozen smile on a woman's face
as she says somethin to her kid

her hat's on tight
and her cheeks are grim
gotta be a heavy moment
in the life of that human entity

and i'd like to see if that's a bent up cig
but my pocket'll have to wait
till i find out
if the scene plays out
