jam on, my virtual friends
jam on
the year draws to an end
but the jam will never die
though jammers come
and jammers go
the jammy goodness from their pens
remains
preserves preserved
like the forever music
of Dizzy & Miles
Bird and 'Trane
Krupa and Blakey
Christian and Django
and the onliest Mingus...
I am no Miles
no Blakey, no Mingus, no Christian...
but I'll beat the drum
and jam what I am what I can
and maybe clear a space
for the jammers...
for the real poets of S8

jam on in to the new year
jam on in to the end of a decade
here we are again layin' down our words
it takes commitment
that's all, an urge to share our minds
mix them notions all together
in a big salad bowl, toss it all
with the fork in the road
doesn't have to be monumental
to be or not to be, be the change
you wanna see on the screen...
be all you can be, but not a soldier
with deadly arms, only the hugging type
some jam is sweet, some jam is tart
some jam melts in the mouth
like hot butter on a toasted tongue
or is it my brain that's toasted
never-mind, ever-mind, mind-meld
mellow 'cross the fields of time
running naked through the woods
it's all here somewhere, year after
year, tallyho, onward poetic soldiers
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

never mind, nevermore,
less is more, more or less
lessons learned, earned, burned,
burned in the urn
turn turn turn
run run run
waiting for the sun
for the Son, for the One
for the one who won
who won how won
how on earth
virgin birth?
in a virgin's berth?
for what it's worth
heavenworth leavenworth
sevenworth sevenfourth
seven four
1-2, 1-2, 1-2-3
1, 1, 1, 1-2-3-4
seven to the bar
rockin' in the car
tappin' out the beats
rappin' ravin'
raven speaks, quoth he:
nevermore
ahh, never mind...

beat poets beat the drum
lay the groundwork with snapping fingers
echolocation for a new era
the words and lyrics for Leonard Cohen
Eric Burdon, Jim Morrison
Ginsberg's howling train whistle
'cross a country in flux. Hendrix
Dylan, the Bob, the Blob filmed
in technicolor, the Tingler
the wired seats in the movie theater
Elvis with his X-rated hips doing the hula,
the cliffs in Acapulco where he pooped up
after a long plunging dive into the water
with his hair perfectly coiffed hair
love power, flowers in your hair in San Francisco
the Grateful Dead, Ken Kesey, Wavy Gravy
50's, 60's, 70's, all shook up
LSD, MaryJane, communal living
express yourself
we are family
sunshine of your love
cream of the crop
and on and on, so much still just as vibrant
so let's not let the powers that be steal all of that away
RESIST.......
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

was that an oversight or deliberate
No mention of Saint Jack
he is the oneliest reason I am here

I suppose I have read more about him than by him
sad fact, I have the soul of a peasant, a fellahin
St Jack died for my sins.

I can't fake beatitude

saint constantinople
saint wireman
saint zlatko the waterman
saint lightningrod
saint jimboloco
those that knew them in the flesh might say they were no saints,
to me they are now
they prepared a place before me

studio eight abounds with jammers who too will be beatified one day

intensity leads to vulnerability leads to strength

nostalgia will never be what is was

how long is now

i give thanks to the present presences
as well as past ripples waving back

whom washed upon my shore
as i me.andered along echo beach

*with apologies to martha and the muffins
.homesick. but homeless.

Kerouac interviewed by William Buckley
what a crazy scene on the black and white
when the television cabinets were made of mahogany
and the guest were all burning non-filtered cigs
to demonstrate their Marlboro Manliness
though Camels were just as popular, an oasis
for traveling poets, musicians, magicians
Edward R. Murrow and Steve Allen the ratfink
Schmock, Schmock...i loved to sneak down at night
catch his shows, even had Kerouac among the nonsense
some say he wrote over 8,000 songs...damn man
how many folks have done anything 8000 times
he wrote some good ones too, just heard one last week
Cool Yule....a hip little holiday song.....I'm of the age
of reflection, pouring back over the cranial albums
listening to songs, as Stevie Wonder said
In the Key of Life
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

tour the USA, in your Chevrolet...
a little dab'll do ya...
you'll wonder where the yellow went...
nothin's as lovin' as something from the oven...
except maybe
the sound of an old
electromechanical
cash register
ringing up another purchase
another transfer of your geld
to their pocket
Thank You, Citizen
For Doing Your Part...
You May Go...
for now

oh those intoxicating pins of white
little red necklace to tease you
Duckpin Bowling in Maryland
it's such a sweet slice of Americana
the king of kompeling kitsch
never ever been a perfect game, a 300
nope, that's how challenging the game be
little red tongues waving at you to knock them down
and you throw your best ball and some stand up
to torture you again and again, do you know
how many times I've heard this cry on league night
I Hate This Fucking Game !
about a million
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

amo et odi
did the Latins create fútbol?
mmm... I guess not
maybe a mix of mayans & brits performing aquatic nahuatl
In times of volatile games
& rules´s resistance
eleven players & a ball
seem almost a tender thing
