if the voices outside are russian
and the olympics are in hebrew
this must be home

if the neighbour dog's being carried
and the cat being yelled at
this must be home

if the coffee is instant
and the water bottles empty
this must be home

if my eyes are blurry
and my chair's uncomfortable
this must be home

home

if the roads are full upon each hour of every day
with everyone going nowhere
this must be home
if the olympics are being staged in china
and Tibet is still being raped limitless
this must be home
if each question asked is answered by another
and neither need aught be
this must be home
if the sun and its endeavors
ceased to be
would this still be home

if rain keeps pouring and
work piles up it must be
august

if i'm buzzing around
preparing for vacation
it must be august

if i'm buried by
short-notice tasks
that push everything else
to the last flimsy minute

and if i feel
like a procrastinator
while i'm zooming around
leaving the laundry
out in the rain
it must be
august

if i'm filling boxes
with rice and sweaters
with books and jungle oil
with shoes and ropes and candles
it must be cottage time
it must be august

if i'm about to
pack my family and leave
for northern forests
and scandinavian light
for lakes and tress and mosquito bites

it must be
must be
august!

(judih - welcome back home!
i can feel you quivering with the familiarity of culture shock.
it feels good to have you back in my time zone!)

if panta rhei is multi-tasking
packing and remembering
and writing and poeting
getting ready and doing all
then, this must be an if jam

if sonofthesun is grabbing a chance
to remind us of insanities
dualities and absurdities
politics and hypocrites
then, this must be an if jam

jam on, if you feel the pulse
if you got the pulse

got pulse ?
You've got to be kidding,
oh judih you were so close
when you were in Toronto!
Just down a bit & a hop-skip-jump
across Lake Ontario from me -
how I wished I could
have met you face-to-face!
But! got pulse? my heart beats
Like a native drum over & thru the forests!
My heart beats over the heads of
the living and thru the grass on the graves!
got pulse? You betcha!
BoomBoomBoomBoom!
BoomBoomBoomBoom!
BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOM!!!
Here's to the day when
I will meet all of God's children
at the gates of the New Jerusalem!
See you there! BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOM!!!!!!!!!!

if a lake is ontario
and has many sides
how many days does it take to traverse?

rhetorical calculations
if you do them
make for sudoku solitude

shaw festival maybes
next year, if it happens
catch a play, if you can

If this is Friday, midway through
August where summer is not nearly new,
then I must be preparing to go to the shore
for a day or two or maybe more.

(Hope you had a fantastic trip, judih!
welcome home!)

if you think i had fun
i could have had more
if you had been home
when i called
when i stole a second
away from the crowds
to plant a smile in your ear
alas this is if
and not all ifs become conditions
if they did, i'd have no time to jam

if i had known
i would have answered
if i were home

but for a month
and a half
i haven't
answered the
phone

unless i recognized
the number from
my mother

oh brother,
would have loved
to hear my sister's voice,
my choice would have been
to pick up and speak

if i was here
and i knew your call
was coming last week

(or whenever it was you called.. ;)
thanks for thinking of me, dear friend...
truly sorry i missed you!)

if i knew you'd hate the phone
i would have been on TV
in a rerun of the View
or a sneak preview of an enlightened cartoon
i would have mailed you the braille
to disguise the unlisted
if i'd known you hate the phone

if judih's up

jet-lagged

if a beat was beat,
would a rose still be a rose?
if I got the pulse,
I got the whoosh whoosh..

I don't necessarily hate the phone.
Honestly, though, sometimes I do.
But this time,
I was just all alone hiding out.
If I knew you were going
to give a shout, I would
have come out of hiding,
answered the ring
but since I didn't know
it could have been anything ....
a bill collector,
a stranger wanting to screw....
one never knows, so what to do?
If I knew you were calling,
I'd answer for you!

;)

if dr. seuss were here
he'd know what to do
jet lagged
bill collected
overly whooshed
there'd be an answer
i'm telling you true
if the kindly but departed dr seuss knew

I do not like greedheads and spam.
I will not read them, Sam I. M.
I will not read them in my house.
I will not read them with a mouse.
I do not like them in my box.
I do not like them on my FOX.

If Dr. Seuss could write a book using fifty words or less,
he could win fifty bucks. He did. He won a bet with his
publisher, according to wiki. And thus was born
'Green Eggs and Ham'...
