My New Jacket

Brakes raked the sand;
gradual halt in the morning.
Enigmatic coffee cup glitters a hello.
Idiot radio DJ with a skit
awakens my anger
--RADIO OFF--

The dog has taken a drink of water
from its round metallic bowl.
Trails of water on the wooden floor.
My socks absorb it
and I hope it is just water
with a scrunched up face.

Pile of post down at the front door,
junk mail, junk mail,
bill, bill, bill,
package from an Ebay auction I won:
a classic style biker’s jacket.

The jacket is old and weathered,
the leather is broken and ancient.
I hold it up to the light to inspect it
as the dog tilts his head and sniffs.
The jacket looks good and heavy
and the zippers are chunky, threatening.

I put the jacket over the back of the chair,
have another coffee.
I watch the dog jump up on the chair.
He gives that jacket a good ol' sniff.
I'm smiling and watching MTV2,
Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss.

ha! I still haven't seen that film.

I really should. The beatles got their name from that film, didn't they?

I also think one of my favourite bands, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, got their name from the film too.

That's a great line:

"what're you rebelling against?"

"what've you got?"

The Simpsons do a wee spoof of that. It's lisa, obviously, who utters the line.

I think I've heard this one before. I really like your voice. It's all weathered and ancient like my new jacket.

I hope you don't ever stop smokin because it may have an adverse affect on your voice.

Beautiful. If it were a flower it'd be a scottish thistle. http://www.scotshistoryonline.co.uk/thi ... istle.html hardy, tough and gorgeous.

I assume chapeau is french for hat?
