She had a good death
Her final requests were all honored
We talked it all out
She wanted an orthodox burial cause the coffins are so cheap. She did not want to die in a hospital room among the strangers and beeping machines and the calls on the loud speakers every five minutes and the strange noises in the night.
She died in her own bedroom in familiar surroundings
But she was old and ready to go
Three heart attacks, a stroke, and then the cancer.
I did not mind cleaning up after her, but she was ashamed when she became incontinent. A strange thing for a son to look upon his mother's withered body. Better a daughter but that was not possible. At the end my only regret was that I did not hold her in my arms. But my sobs of grief seemed a comfort to her just as she let go of her last breath. There was no fear in her final facial expression. Only a look of recognition as if she saw some one who loved her. At peace with her G d, a serene expression that seemed to say; "oh ok that is all right."
