workin beneath
the catoctins
everyday
lookin out at
purple majesties
makes me wanna
drop my tools
make my getaway
like yojimbo a
ronin with no
master, no more
goddess keeping
me at bay,
make my getaway
jam on into those
purple hills, where
the black bear &
mountain lions play,
make my getaway
at least for the
weekend, sounds
like a plan, the very
thought of it is
jammingly grand,
make my getaway
do the mountain boogie
do the mountain boogie
and JAM!

in my world
the only mountains
within view,
within reach
are glass and steel.
i sit half way up one,
look out at several others.
the morning sun
bounces off
the west walls.
whirs emanate,
never silent,
i'm lost inside
the cacophony.
within the familiar
i struggle with wanting
to runaway,
but can't see how,
not yet.
so i sit in the shadow
of steel and glass,
for now,
and
imagine your catoctins
(minus the david camp --
the one that was shangri-la).

what's over the
next rise,
I remember the
sleeping bear dunes
on lake michigan
up and down those
10 story dunes under a
blue sky and then
lo and behold
that azul jewel of
a lake called michigan

It seems no matter what city,
and no matter what the game,
the epicenter is a steel canyon or two.
It's been rainin' for quite awhile,
the great northwest dues of dampness...
long, loving and stoic in the evergray,
where light flickers and hides in patches,
soon to showcase a green paradise,
outside light-starved steel gray...
For now I have a tan daydream.
For now I have bare Mojave ridges,
where the desert nearly swallows mountains,
and prospectors once dialed paydirt from a horizon.
I'll run with that for now...

left the valley
beneath the
catoctins yesterday
morning, journey
to the capitol of
e pluribus unum
Takoma Park &
Crystal City to be
exact-a-mundo
stopped into house
of musical traditions
for some needed percussive
acoutrements and a new
clarke pennywhistle (D)
a cuppa joe @ the
savory cafe where
i found out
they're doin shows
on saturday nights
then a lil trip down
the rock creek
a beautiful oasis
running the length
of NW DC town
then across the
potomac place where
lincoln sits in stone
and many a soldier
lays, then a short ride along
the river with a right
@ ronnie's airport
over the railroad tracks
to the concrete bastion
of crystal city where my friends
jeff aug on guitar & nico lai on
udu drum and various percussion
played on the 6th floor of
an empty highrise that i had
worked on back in the day

always great to revisit a place you helped build,
and hear how the business of life and music fills it up...
...I motored up the 5 to a hotel I once helped design,
to give a best man speech and see my best friend off
into a life of domestic bliss...
When I was younger it was the ocean;
now it's the mountain that calls to me,
as chakras ascending to a mysterious heart.
Closer to the heart, the bedrock wisdom...
There is something up there...
