'Really great shoe for you tonight...'
I had to take a break from Sunday football to watch President Bush get hazed in Iraq. The sole of a shoe is a high insult in Iraq and our president had two hurled at him in his news conference. The guy got through security no problem and then got not one but TWO shots off before the SS took him down.
The reporter had a pretty good arm. But Bush is an artful dodger.
Luckily the shoes were Florsheims and not Doc Martins. It might save the guy from the death penalty.

An Iraqi journalist was wrestled to the floor by security guards after he called Mr Bush "a dog" and threw his footwear, just missing the president.

I tried freeze framing it to see if I could catch his expression when he saw it coming, but you are right he is an artful dodger, he went down fast.
I wonder who had the bright idea of sending him to Iraq at this late date. It was probably his. That is how out of touch he is.
I knew about the trip to Iraq but not about the shoe.
I like to keep up with fast breaking news.
God forbid it was not a shoe bomb.
Just my paranoia you know
but suppose Cheney told him it was a good idea to go?
I am so happy to see that clip
thanks for posting

I feel like a cat with a shinny thing
I can't leave it alone
I found a better video on washingtonpost.com. You notice the Iraqi guy standing beside him did not flinch or duck. I guess he knew the journalist could hit the intended target.
I just got the Ed Sullivan TV show bit
I think it was a pretty heavy shoe he trough did you hear the noise it made when it hit the wall? It would a put a knot on his head for sure.

Here is a translation of what the guy said in Arabic
“This is a gift from the Iraqis; this is the farewell kiss, you dog.”
nytimes.com
I can hear the call in radio comments now. "Those ungrateful bastards don't appreciate what we have done for them.
I can hardly wait to read the letters to the editors in my local Hearst newspaper.

he says, like,
"We have made sound decisions."
He totally affirmed what GW said,
"So what?"
Like, they sing in chorus.

We just heard young Pop Warner cheerleaders,
a whole troop of young teens and younger,
marching along doing cheer chants in unison!
mercy, it is so amazing what power and force they can conjure up.

well there is plenty what there jimboloco"So what?"
it is all about George Orwell and 1984
It is about setting the record straight.
It is about
"the story preserved in popular memory of a past event"
"History is not an objective empiracal datum; it is a myth. Myth is no fiction, but a reality; it is, however one of a different order from that of so-called objective empiracal fact. The myth is the story preserved in popular memory of a past event and transcends the the limits of external objective world, revealing an ideal world, a subject-object world of facts

Reality made a dramatic cameo appearance when President Bush's legacy tour touched down in Baghdad yesterday and a shoe-hurling Iraqi journalist refused to go along with the charade that the invasion of his country was something to celebrate.
Bush, as part of his series of carefully choreographed farewell statements, has been making every effort to suggest that victory is around the corner in the two unfinished wars he leaves behind him (one undertaken under false pretenses, both vastly more protracted and costly than expected). The implicit message is that if anything goes wrong from this point forward, it will be Barack Obama's fault.

Obama has already lost the war and screwed up our ecconomy.
Everything was so peachy till he got in the White House.
I heard about it in the car´s radio. The journalist also did an etimologhy or the word "zapato" in different languages leading to "sabotaje" and he also talked about the right shoe of Krushev. Bush had luck I guess...
any hidden symbology of a shoe in the irakian world or it was the only contudent object available in the room to beat him?

I don't care if victory is locked up in my freezer like a side of beef. It was bad policy then and it is bad policy now, based originally on greed, lies, ignorance, arrogance, and far too much abuse as the occupation unfolded. So yes, at least be ready to duck when flying into the heart of it to proclaim your victory.
So this fellow throws his shoes at Bush. Understandable. But what puzzles me is what is the sense in throwing away a good pair of shoes and leaving the press conference in socks? Is this a planned attack and the reporter brings an extra pair of shoes with him? Does he throw his best pair or his worn out pair at Bush?
I'd like to know the rules of this grave insult. Anyone know?

He called him a dog which is also a grave insult. The thing with the shoes is because they touch the ground the souls[sic] are dirty. I suppose that is why Muslims remove them before entering a Mosque
Well the shoes have been identified, they were None Bush with
VELCRO® strap closures. For easy removal. The story is out that a Saudi Arabian man has offered ten million dollars for them.
If I was there I would have thrown my panties at him.
