religion, art, and madness

Post by saw » May 15th, 2010, 11:19 am

no need to fret
about the lady schizophrenia
she has never to my knowledge
harmed an artist

only challenged
his position on god, his take
on the consciousness required
to enable a tired old man

to affirm rather than rail against
the limitations of his body
yet use his disregard for death
to pump pure oxygen into his brush

to embrace his cultivated insanity
like a love affair with a determined muse
sharpening his chiseled mantra
that the only sin is apathy
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

thought-provoking as always. apathy is a tough one. politically, you engage, discuss, but are you "out there on the front lines?" are you doing enough? no one will ever "do enough" to satisfy the most rabid of activists, it seems.

and then, apathy , more in a sense of disconnect, to postmodern existence, or even "assimilation" (into the Borg for you trekkies), the creep of faceless digital conformity, and. . . where was I going with this? found a silent muse in green this morning. god it's been a long winter...

I like it very much. I've known a lot of people who are mentally or emotionally ill. Should the conversation ever turn to the helplessness of their situation, I always remind them that these "disorders" and creativity often go hand-in-hand. It's just a matter of harnessing what you have, playing the hand you were dealt.
