latest land speed record

Post by mnaz » December 27th, 2010, 6:04 am

a hundred degrees at noon
nevada's high rock moon scrape
the sullen tuff, ominous and beaten
radiant horizon grows, a town appears
humble, defiant, spot of green on granite

the blinding playa
waterless fjord to a waterless sea
duck into a cave, below dazzling heat
with cold beer and slots, the oasis
they all stop, railroaders, miners
ranch hands, exiled poets
even speed demon brits

a jet car photo hangs over the bar
andy green set the land speed record in 1997
763 miles an hour, cracked the air, kaboom
knocked a shot glass off the bar

wild stuff snazzy mnaz......the concept of oasis is so open to everything one can imagine and the pictures you always draw of the desert par with edward albee.......you are the larry mcmurtrey of desert poetry....the zane grey of poetic tribute to the arid west......cool story......it's probably true....

thanks saw-man. well, the speed record still stands, as far as I know. and those brits are at it again! heard it on the radio recently. going for a thousand miles an hour, something like that.... as for the shot glass? not sure. i read something about it, but when i asked the bartender, he couldn't remember...
