Elvis in Hollywood Hotel

Elvis died from a stopped heart
the drugs were in his system

Hollywood used rock and roll
Elvis got caught in between

somewhere in the music
that changed the world
that Elves made

we are caught between the scenes
in the movies that filled our lives
between the Twilight Zone and
the Twilight of the idols

between the Wild One
and Leave it to Beaver
Gone With The Wind
and Star Wars

it's now High Noon
and Howl draws its six shooter
typewriter
at the moon

I began listening
to rock around the clock
when TV was young
somewhere between rock and roll
and Hollywood dream machine
my young life met poetry

did Elvis die from Hollywood
did his heart stop at Heartbreak Hotel
did the words to that song become so big
that he had to fill the hole in his heart
with a dirty dozen of drugs

we live our lives with all these great movies
but what about all the B movies that fade away
the poetry enters between Hollywood and rock
and roll between Kubla Khan and the Second
Coming...stands Heartbreak Hotel

Jim Morrison was the Lizard king
Hollywood had nothing on Jim
Strange days had found him
before they found some actor
to play him

Elvis was the king
but Hollywood could not remake Elvis
so his fans imagine that he is still alive
and may arrive at the Midnight Diner
nothing could be finer then Elvis
with a one liner in the Hollyweird morning

but he still has a date with Heartbreak Hotel
rock and roll was an Albatros around his neck
and nothing can put the king of rock back
together again

I like my poetry with swivel hips
I like a stiff shot of Bukowski at the crack of dawn
I take my Rimbaud with Dylan at three
Kerouac on the road for eternity

I watch the TV ads for new movies and wonder what can save us from our fear.

not by the government but by the studios
more violence more blood more fear cause it sells world round
everything is on time on schedule
here in the twenty first century Anno Domini
fear is good
