I think i dreamed of an inflatable kayak last night or the night before - but i'm not sure of that. It could be a "false memory". Seems i am becoming prey to this lately. Maybe all my life. I've been reading a lot the past couple of weeks about inflatable kayaks so that could have something to do with the dream or with the "false memory" of the dream. Tell me, if a "false memory" of a dream falls over in the forest is it any less real ?

Well I'm pissed off. I love a good simple emotion like being pissed off. And it's good those moments when you can express your state of being without a doubt and in one word & no on the one hand and then on the other hand. That kind of shit pisses me off too. Though i'm not exactly sure why i'm pissed off and that pisses me off too. Maybe no one ever needs a reason to be pissed off. You can just be pissed off as one more facet of existence as a human being. I don't think that Genghis Khan gave 2 shits about having an empire. I think one day he just looked out across the steppes and was saddened by the sorry state of people and everything else in the world and being bored he got pissed off. He got up on his pony and got other people up on their ponies and off they all went into history raising a furious cloud of dust & havoc along the way. He didn't want an empire - he just wanted a good ride. Well, i hope he got it and if he did that pisses me off 'cause why should he be the only one having all the fun ?

Well, I'm pissed off.

Mingo, I want to buy a boat of mine own so badly.
All morning I'm looking at boats for sale and I can't wait to have her.
I'm going to love every bit and piece of her when she's mine.
I wish you weren't pissed, cause then you could spend some of this day with me looking at what boats need a lover.
Bise.

spent all day on the road so i'm wore on and not so pissed - i was only generally pissed anyways, a man has to enjoy his moods ya know. So, wore on as i am my general pissniss had passed until i read your post. Then a little of it began to show its head - i mean what kind of boat ya lookin' at or for ? you lookin' at rowboats or canoes or pontoon boats? River rafts? Or something sweet & sexy like a kayak? 8) My looks lately have been at inflatable kayaks. I mean it's a whole new world to me ya know. Trouble is I can find no one I know who has ever owned or knows anybody who has ever owned one of these craft. So ya can see i'm in the right position to be pissed off again. Think I'll have to go about it the same way I did when I bought my hardshelled kayaks, because I had read a lot of shit 'bout them too but I actually had to go commit and buy one before I began to understand what all the information was about. of course by then it's too late to do anything 'bout what you should have bought because ya shot yer wad already just gettin' into it. So to hell with enlightenment anyways because what the hell good is it ? "Live & learn is what folks love to say but that's back asswards as usual. It should be "learn & live" ya know. So I'm pissed again. And lovin' it. Hell yeah, Mongolia! So I'm sort of kinda settled on an inflatable kayak made by a company name of Saturn Boats or Inflatables or something like that. The model is called the Expedition - it's a 13' foot inflatable and it looks cool and the specs are impressive. It can seat two but also be configured for one paddler. I can use the extra space for to haul gear for extended camping trips. An inflatable kayak can haul several hundred punds more stuff than a comparable hardshell. There is a whitewater edition of this boat that I also am considering. It is the same boat but has some extra features like a thickened strake that runs all around the lower section of the boat for abrasion protection and a floor that is double the thickness of the Expedition & is self bailing. It's not that I do a lot of whitewater but it would be some kind of ok with me to have a craft that was capable of it because even though I am somewhat civilized I can go native on ya in a New York minute. Go to BoatsToGo.com and hit the Saturn section if ya want to see this boat. Unless I hear somethig real bad about this craft before next season she will be my new BabyDoll. You can see her in action on youtube also though I warn ya that if you click on the promo vids you are going to hear in the background the same kind of music that you hear in the nuthouse in the movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" . I hope never to meet the ones that designed those vids. The private vids don't have that kind of music thank God.

Well, I looked on ebay at row boats, cause I was picturing one I could lift up over my back and shoulder...umm guess they're bigger than I'd imagined.
Then I checked canoes, because I'm familiar with them. Only I'd like to go to something a bit more fat, ya know.

Oh! man, next it was my searching houseboats and river boats, thinking about living on the water.

Thanks mingo.
I will go look at her.

And sorry I'd pissed ya off.

I prolly like a boat like this row boat.

http://spindriftrowboats.com/images/whitehallb.jpg

I've never been around a kayak. Not even sure I've seen one up close before. :P
Do you sit down in it very snug and low? Does it squeeze? Hmm. Trying to imagine what it might be like.

Look at this little water beauty.
She was soaked and once dried out she's a sweet 90-100 pounds.

I like her story anyway, a cod fisher.

And I'd love a darling sail boat.
She looks simple enough to string up and catch wind. But, I've not sailed before either, only seen other people out on the water with one.

I found it :P

It's lightweight to carry, which is really nice.

I've thought about living on the water myself. Especially since I got into kayaking but ... probably be more to it than jus' thinkin' about it. You would need a bigger boat for one thing. i see from your links what your thinkin' of when it comes to boats. You dealin' with some weight here along with bulk.
Gonna take a bit to get it on top of your vehicle unless ya got help. I have seen folks out on Lake Ontario in boats like this & out along the coast in the ocean. My age I'd get me a trailer for these little beauties. Reason I like kayaks is because they are so simple to deal with and i can get into the damndest places with them. I've thought about the sailing end of it too. They have sail setups for kayaks - especially for the inflatable ones and I've done a lot of checking on this. One of the things i've listed under "One of these days" - like your ideas on this though - I think you should follow it out. I can hear the yen in your words. I was kiddin' about being pissed off - frustrated is more like it. So don't let it fret ya, I'm just an ol' meanie man. 8)

Mingo, is it a trick of the eye/mind to show that boat up on a little VW bug? Try to get us thinking small boat. I did think about building mine own, but read this stuff about taking a long time to bend the wood planks. I'm not sure I'd be good to start there.

Yes! loved the inflatable kayaks with the sails to attach and make into a sweet sail boat. I think they were my favorites.

If I bought a row boat, then I'd throw it into my Dad's truck and go down the dirt road. A really short distance to the docks. Cause I can't drive a truck, guess he could help me lift it too. :P ha ha and neener
Was just on google maps looking at camp and the lake.
Made me homesick feeling.

Oh! frustrated because of sumpin' I'd done?

Not a trick of mind or eye but you what ya don't see is the getting it up there - or the taking it off.
I have to put kayaks on and take them off a Grand Cherokee. My Rita is 11' feet long & weighs about 41#. Not a lot mind you but I think from time to time of not having to lift them, especially after an all-dayer on the water. And the Cherokee is not a low-slung vehicle, it sits up there. You have to get the boat over your head to get it into the racks on top your vehicle. And with the Bear you are dealing with a boat 16' long and weighing in the neighborhood of 80+ pounds. You are talking a hundred pounds or more with the boats you are looking at - and it's hard to explain what bulk - or length - does to the process of lifting. I think you would always need someone to help ya out - the best thing you can do right now is find someplace locally that sells this kind of craft, go there and lift one of them - just hip high to begin with, then try putting it on your shoulder and walking with it, then try lifting it and holding it over your head. Then imagine doing it every time you want to go to the water. I'm not trying to throw dirt on what you want in any way, to tell ya truth I came away from the pics on your links with a bit of boat lust myself. But my experience with loading & transporting & unloading kayaks and doing it all over again to get home and then having to unload them again when i get there tells me that you need to do this yourself to have a firm notion of what this part of it is going to be like for you.
Do that first before you decide on anything. Find a dealer and go do it. If it's something you can live with you are in the clear - you'll be the Lady of the Lake & Queen of the Open Sea & not Genghis Khan or even the Mona Lisa will have anything on you.

Inflatable kayaks have stirred my imagination in a mighty way and even after reading everything I can and watching all the vids where people look like they are having way too much fun this side of the grave I still won't know anything worth knowing about these craft until I'm in one and gone on down the river. The first five minutes of such a trip is going to teach me more right down to my bones than miles of text or a thousand videos.

I was frustrated because you first mentioned looking at boats and didn't say what kind of boats or anything so I'm left hanging going WTF! Why are we still having this conversation? It's cool, I'll live. Are you trying to piss me off? 8) 8)

With the inflatables it would be great if they do as designed in all aspects. Especially deflating them after a session on the water and packing them back into the carry bag they came in & throwing them into the back of Vera ready to go all over again. I'm suspect on that because it looks too much like a piece of cake. And everything - i mean EVERYTHING is under the CURSE - especially pieces of cake.

I've thought of building a kayak - from scratch. I lack experience, tools, AND a place to work such a project. I'm somewhat relieved that I DON"T have what I need to do it - otherwise I'd already be in mucho trouble.
