AUTUMN WONDERLAND
By Steve Plonk

Leaves are falling
Breezes are blowing
Walking in a leafy wonderland…
We glimpse bird’s feathers glisten
Hear songs in the trees, as we listen…
Some folks we are missing,
As we’re walking this autumn day—

As other friends & family come our way…
The creeks are burbling
Colors in the trees flash about
As we fish for speckled trout
Out in the autumn wonderland…
***
Squirrels & raccoons are chattering,
As through the gravel our feet are clattering,
Walking those leafy pathways,
We’re awed by the color,
On this November Thursday,
As the breeze blows briskly,
Our pets behave friskly,
Rolling in the leaves near the trail…

See a bright boating byway,
As we later float down the causeway,
In that autumn wonderland…
Leaving a rippled water tale…
Right before our Thanksgiving meal…

There is much that goes into the creation of a poem that the reader knows nothing about, the philosophical and psychological issues, the personal memories of the poet, all brought together into the mix of the poem. This has made this a moving and concerning poem, one which brings the reader in and at the same time give enjoyment as well as enlightenment. 8)

DARKNESS INTO DAWN
By Steve Plonk

When Darkness said
To Dawn, “which road are you on?”
She said “I travel unaware
That I’m just colored air”
“Photons of light travel
With me as I stream
Past the Morning star
Into what they dream...”

“Yes”, old Darkness Knight,
Says, “ I know what you mean,”
“My swirling black clouds
Are nearly finished raining down
Sleet unto the forested town,”
“No human knows what you
Say to me, nor what I say to you,”
“So, I try not to give myself away,
For I am just vapor without color.”

Dawn, trumpeted that she heard
What old man Darkness had to say,
She brought in our light & continued into Day.
Now Day let on the conversation of
Older Brother Darkness Knight,&
Sister Princess Dawn, To one another &
He sent the wire to me,
In my early morning dream,
So, I bring it to you, you see...

For with the sun,
God brought his Son,
To save us all from
The “Darker One”...
Once again we
Raise our tawny heads
To the clear blue sky, &
Praised Jesus name,
As fluffy clouds
Race on by...
As hear the Dove,
Its mournful cry...

SUNSHINE PILLOWED KINGDOM
By Steve Plonk

Woke up in the sunshine
Been with you all night
Within my mind
I’m feeling sunshine pillowed
Clouds with silver lining
Though under that willow,
I feel as though I could cry—
But, under this here willow, I feel
A sunshine pillow…
You’re resting my eyes.
***
In our starlit kingdom
The sun never quite shines
Moonbeams dance—
Reflecting on our skin—
In our twilight kingdom
We feel so fine—no one’s around
To pay us any mind—
In our kingdom,
We are always leaving the sunset &
Awaiting the aura of dawn—
Crimson fingers groping through
The clouds of our starlit kingdom…
An interlude before dawn’s arrival
We revel in the night
With dawn’s anticipation…

SAFFRON & PINE NEEDLE GREEN (lyric)
By Steve Plonk

Much too warm for winter,
Much too cold for spring,
Just sittin’, smellin’ an incense bowl
Of saffron & pine needle green.

Sittin’ listenin’ to the sprinkle on trees
Of the little drops of rain,
Lettin’ my mind flows like
The incense bowl glows,
Scent penetratin’ my nose.

Leaves hangin’ brown on hardwoods,
But white pine is still green,
I’m alone, yes, I’m alone,
But what a beautiful scene—
My mind took a while to get there,
Hangin’ with the scent in the air.

Smoke clouds on my eyes as
I smell the scent as it flies—
My mind is content & at peace—
Still sittin’ playing my guitar,
The smoketrace before the window
Makes me sing this soulful little tune—

In this late misty February afternoon,
In my room, my ears do ring,
Smelling the open window’s scents,
Of the early signs of spring,
Not giving a hoot about any little thing…

Circa, Late February 1973,
Revised March 1, 2013.

Here's some poems you'll really love, brought to you on the wings of a dove...
From the wings of a great speckled bird... :)

I DREAMT I WAS A WOOLY WORM…
By Steve Plonk

I dreamt I was a wooly worm,
A wooly worm I’d be,
I was a graceful orange & black
Wooly worm floating in a pond, you see…
On a large catalpa tree leaf
My raft upon the blue—
The only thing missing from this dream
Was you…
I squirmed where I needed to squirm,
I moved my guts to crawl like a worm,
My catalpa leaf floated me as pretty as could be,
The blue green pond was as big as the sea…
I directed my raft to come ashore,
Then I built my pupa’s nest & was a worm no more…
***
Then my pupa’s nest was transformed
Into a cardinal’s egg, & I hatched out
As a hatchling chick…
Mother bird taught me how to eat & fly…
After my second solo flight, I declared my
Freedom & flew up into a tall white pine,
I rested from my exodus & was feeling fine…
Lastly, I transformed into a brown bear cub,
Hugging this great tall white pine &
Munching on pine needle nuts,
Extracted from the cones—
Grinning my cub bear smile
As I licked my chops…
Suddenly, I awakened hungry as a human
For a breakfast of “grape nuts”, banana, & milk…
Hungry after busy dreams
of archetypical transformations…

EXPERIENCE IS THE BEST TEACHER
By Steve Plonk

When I was young, I had no clue,
Now that I’m older, I’ve gotten a few…
Getting to know all of you,
Was an interesting vibe to do.

Now that I’m old,
I deal with the nuances
Of a busy afternoon…
With a little moxey,
With a pickle spoon—
“Poor Man’s Caviar”
Goes down smooth,
On pumpernickel rye…

I have some tricks
I’ve learned on the sly,
To cope with the foibles
Of the day…
So they say…
So, on with the show,
Let’s giddy-up & go…
Things don’t always
Go our way…

Thanks, Sweetwater...glad you liked my stuff.
As the bard says: "Further on is into day..." C. S. Lewis...

Even as we go through dark patches of shade, the sunlight
peeps through the trees. We revel in the night, but await
the glory of dawn... :) A bit of esoterica to ponder... 8)

Steve, there’s all kinds of poetry in this poem. I guess that’s why you posted it as a poem.

Wonderful rhyme scheme.

Wonderful use of onomatopoeia. Makes for some damn good imagery.
