it's time to play...
WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW?
meshell ndegeocello is my answer. 'peace beyond passion' is the album, and it's dripping with evening soul like tropical summer rain. makes me crave a glass of wine, and a girlfriend over for chinese takeout dinner.
now you go.

i really like em.......my wife turned me on to them ......I am really turned on by a deep down world sound especially taken to another level......that's why I,ve been putting these elements into my training as a poet performer/musician......in my bag-o-trix I've recently added an egyptian mizmar horn and a new doumbek drum to go along with my djembes, ocean drum, bodrhan,and crazed assortment of percussion toys.........a turkish spike fiddle is next on my list.......mark

Mark...I love your picks...I guess you know I am a HUGE Sting fan from waaay back in his Police days. Desert Rose has to be one of my favorites.(wonder why? Hah!)
World music is one of my favorite genres and I have a shit-pot full of this type of music. Whether it is African, Indian (native or eastern), etc. I love Dead Can Dance (great name for a band!).
Have you ever listened to Jai Uttal? Try these cds by him, Shiva Station or Monkey. His mother was east Indian and he has taken the tradional instruments and added his american roots to make some kick-ass music.
And from this girl's perspective, he is as cute as a bug!
Hamza El Din's A Wish is wonderful and what I am listening to right now.

* Brainwashed by George Harrison.
A dear friend lent it to me and I feel it´s perfect for these days. I fell in love inmediately with "Marwa blues".
* greek music
* some old themes by León Gieco (En el país de la libertad, Déjame que te sienta, Cada día somos más, Seamos todos caballos, Hombres de hierro, María del Campo, Todos los caballos blancos, Campesinos del norte, Soles grises y mares rojos, La colina de terciopelo).
