my haiku is totally fucked up

Post by the mingo » November 18th, 2014, 5:11 pm

my haiku is
totally fucked up
not even eating rice
and drinking saki
helps at all
- so much for the traditional approach -
well, belief is not a mathematical equation
but a spiritual one
a different set of parameters applies
i mean you don't build a house
and set up a tent the same way
the older i get
the longer become the hairs in my nose
& eyebrows
& ears
geologically speaking haiku are
a rather recent phenomenon
but are thought to be ancient
- humbug rules -
imagine a bike set up against
a wall in the snow
a man takes a picture of it
and shows it to me
i exclaim "hey, that's a beautiful haiku!"
he says "what are you talking about? that's no haiku,
it's a photograph! what's the matter with you? are you blind?"
so it goes - something that helps though when my haiku is all fucked up
is to remember all those zen monks & such
that wandered around japan begging for food
and writing haiku
they pissed & shit all along those roads they traveled
- to remember that makes me smile when
my haiku is totally fucked up

"humbug rules"

And now that we have our snow, I'm trying to imagine the person trying to set the bike against a wall of it. I love your logic sometimes. Simple and direct.

Across the snow marshes
behind my home, soft clouds
gray and fuzzy, blue illusions
structure the edges as a lone hawk
dips and circles its mating dance
Ah, this slow pace system,
this whirling and turning
of northern expectations—
it’s about all rational humans
can stand as we wait from darkness
to darkness to commit our lives;
The sun sets stronger now, reining
over a weakening, bleak wind;
geese are disappearing in sky V’s;
first it was snowing, and now it’s not—
yet, I can’t find the moment it stopped
