Craving Poe

Post by Tjflowers80 » November 18th, 2014, 11:24 pm

My heart beats silently,
My soul screams within;
Contradicting the arousal in me;
As I open the page to begin.

The words pull and tug much;
A holler from afar;
The lore has its holding touch
And my heart leaves this noisy star.

Beckon me again and again my dearest Poe;
For I will devour thy words;
Leaving here all the stress and woes
So to travel all your many worlds.

I love Edgar Allan Poe and I finally have his complete stories and poems. Thank you to my daughter for my last minute birthday gift. Jasmine you are awesome!
And above me the stars align
But not yet with my own
And the night birds sing
Whilst the demon haunts this restless soul.

"Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow --
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream"

The man was genius with sound.

Love him! just love him! He's been my favorite since I was old enough to understand which I think I was five. I'm so excited.
And above me the stars align
But not yet with my own
And the night birds sing
Whilst the demon haunts this restless soul.

Let the dark wings unfurl
from your white shoulders
take flight in your deepest dreams
all dread has fallen away, away

open the pages of the Gothic mist
the gist of you cannot resist
let your imagination wander
through eternal nocturnal splendor

inside the strange
to fill book you will find
your endless curiosity
all that you require

to fill your heart with wild frenzy
morning's rays are just an invitation
to the night's call to the unknown

the only potion you need
is your desire to return to your own story
the one that you read as you go along way
let the day begin, revel in, there is no sin

your poem is forevermore, crave it then

One of the first poems I memorized was the first stanza of "The Bells"
HEAR the sledges with the bells,
Silver bells!
What a world of merriment their melody foretells!
How they tinkle, tinkle, tinkle,
In the icy air of night!
While the stars, that oversprinkle
All the heavens, seem to twinkle
With a crystalline delight;
Keeping time, time, time,
In a sort of Runic rhyme,
To the tintinnabulation that so musically wells
From the bells, bells, bells, bells,
Bells, bells, bells—
From the jingling and the tinkling of the bells.
I used to drive my sisters crazy reciting the darn thing. What a repetitious annoying poem but I loved it! ;)

Poe is wonderful. Telltale Heart ... my fave.

Thanks for the poem!

Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

And Poe's prose is often poetry too. Take "The Masque of the Red Death", my favorite Poe story. Fantastic mood and scene setting. And relevant these days----unfortunately---with the Ebola scare, etc.

And I second Doreen about "Bells". And we can't forget "The Raven".

Ah Poe.
And above me the stars align
But not yet with my own
And the night birds sing
Whilst the demon haunts this restless soul.
