monk on monk

Post by revolutionR » March 31st, 2015, 5:02 pm

was listening to me a little monk
like playin that piano in my thoughts
once i lived like a monk, in a small
room off the armpit of the house
on the side of a hill, I moved in
the room after getting kicked
out of a meditation community
for wanting to be an artist/ poet
or that is what it seemed like to me
at the time, so this little room in the
Santa Cruz mountains, near Boulder Creek
where the meditation community was located
on a side street parallel to the down town highway
I had gone to a poetry reading in Boulder Creek
one night to see Andrei Codrescu and some local poets
my two poet friends came along, and after the reading
we went to the after reading party, and partied with
Andrei and the other poets, we were there until dawn
when I went back to the meditation community, the
house I was living with and my woman friend who I
was living with, got all upset that I was out all night long
with those poets, and she told the people in the community
about my lapse into poetry debauchery, so I ended up
leaving the meditation scene, and renting this small room
that had an old turntable and there was two Thelonious Monk
records, that I played everyday for three months, religiously
this helped me deprogram myself from the meditation community
what a drag, to be kicked out of paradise, for hanging out with poets

the poet reading incident, was just the last in a string of things
that lead to me leaving the meditation community, I had
made myself an art studio in the garage of the house that was
on the street of the meditation people, and they got down on
me about that too, I just wanted to be an artist. 8)

I could listen to him all day and all night for a week... no two... and not get bored. I love him. I think I'll listen to him tomorrow while I paint.

I like the poem, too, of course.

......

(now I'm having memories of the Felonious Punk song)
