Burning Woman

Post by 68degrees » April 1st, 2015, 1:51 pm

His mother burned
when he was eight

He watched her skin dance
a red-and-orange dance—
ashes-to-ashes now means
everything to him

The thing is, twenty years later,
of distance, age, or time
none for long has meant much—
most nights his pillow smells
of dust-to-dust when he dreams
of her shriveling mouth,
and the voice that once sang
him to sleep as a child

well constructed visual of a most horrifically unimaginable scene

seems to refer to real-time happening rather than symbolic

chilling!!

I hope this isn't autobiographical....phew, utter horror....painful piece, done tastefully

poetically
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Kid was 17 when he first told me the story. Ran into him later when he was in his late 20's. He just couldn't get past it. House trailer fire. Remembers every last detail.
