still got snow in the woods
but great bare patches of earth
showing in the fields
been out on the bike a bit
installed fenders
& a new seat
which i like so far ...
so far - guess you could say that
about everything -
but maybe so far only goes so far
threw old bread & uneaten dogfood
out the backdoor last evening
it will be gone come dawn
dog went to bed hours ago
he has more sense than me

put something together yesterday for here
forgot to post it
and now today has torn it all apart
so that it is no longer what's happening
but i'm not in the mood
to talk about all things ashes to ashes
or dust in the wind
new fenders don't work on my 'ku pony
neither the new rear rack -
they interfere with the rear hub -
all that toil and cursing to put them on
all for nothing
it's the shits -
took them off
will keep them because who knows
but what a bike may come my way
that they will fit -
could be i bought them because
the spirit knows a bike is coming my way
people look at me sideways when i say
things like that but it's true -
as i was taking everything off
the words of an old bike collector
came into my head and would not leave
going round & round as i wrenched nuts
and bolts & stays & fastenings
he was speaking of the genesis of all things bicycle
how in the beginning the blacksmith
became first a bicycle repairer
then a bicycle maker
as i reached cursing for a dropped wrench
it occurred to me that the bicycle
if you own one
how it reaches out to include you
in it's ongoing moving thing

from the gut
processed innards

excitement & big booms
around here this morning
landlord working on his car
caught the thing on fire
he jumped in it and drove it out of the building
then ran off aways
thing exploded boom boom
then there continued to be little explosions
sirens coming from everywhere
cops showing up too
people stopping up on the highway
to watch the show
25 mph wind blowin'
thick black smoke rollin' up
looked like a missile strike
got to hand it to the volunteer firemen that showed up
there were all over that thing
in military time
jumpin' out of trucks
and shit before they had even come to a halt
it was over in about 30 minutes
but for that 30 minutes
i watched the whole thing evolve
from a spark to aftermath
everybody gone home
with nothing but a burnt out hulk
surrounded by blackened ground
and no one hurt
or in agony
rode my bike to the rim of the gravel pit
and sat there going over the event in my head
call of passing crows roused me from that
threw a leg over my bike
rolled on down the rim
hung a right at the road
and crossed the river

wow!
morning to remember
sitting on that
gravel pit rim
i see u ride away

was riding the train
and writing at 5 am.
read a bit of jack's
journals "a windblown world"
there was a little part
about henry's black spring
making him cry
interesting
writing to the flow of the
the trains movement
not poetry or jam
more like prose
which is hard for me
i feel basho freed me
to write this way
both him and jack
got me sketching
what i see and feel
the essence of it
sprinkle in some haiku
and it's a blast
real hard writing on
a train, bouncing around
but i dig the challenge

eyes closed now
i see from above
the hawk at dawn
upon the tower crane
marvin climbing
clanging the trap door
he flies away
me sipping my coffee below
in the distance
safety vests by the trailers
everyone gathering for
the safety talk on this
monday morn
a rooster crows from
the farm next to the job
no geese this morn
perhaps they've headed
north finally
the job site still and silent
a blank canvas of concrete
boxed galleries to hold
a billionaires collection
i pause to finish my coffee
then walk to the meeting
me I feel like I'm becoming some kinda Kung fu t.v. Priest.....

free flow
mobile
like that snooze
on the train
nomad wanderers
we were meant
to be
cooped up in
highrises wasn't
humanities destiny
yet it keeps
getting worse
i think thats why
we love old basho
cause he had
the guts to just
wander, let it come
in movement, he
had a home
beneath the stars
he slept
one day i feel
i will walk outta this
town and hit the trail
a free man
a true human being
if i can only make it
to medicare which is
coming fast
just the clothes on my
back, maybe my ipad
definitely some notebooks
some harmonicas and flutes
i'll be allright...a roll of wire
and some needle nose pliers
that should be enough 8)

man, maybe you better
stay put ! 8)
basho took things
with him too -
can't imagine doin' calligraphy
on the road - even with today's improvements
and he had to carry
and grind up
his own ink
carry brushes
paper (& keep that dry)
plus food
water
clothes
whew ! no wonder he usually had someone
go with him
needed to
to hump all his stuff !
all i gotta do
to hunt 'ku around here
is have a 3x5 notebook
& ballpoint papermate
all carried hands free
in my new belt
well, that's not quite the whole truth ...
sunglasses (polarized)
vaping gear
water bottle (for coffee)
phone -
face it - we're fucked
but it's a hell of a ride
at least i don't have to
find pasture or feed my pony
she has round legs
likes a little oil on her chain
every now & then
and she's good to go
over the next hill
or slidin' across the flats
on a bike you are
your own sail

uncertain of direction
in new territory
on a backroad
in the middle of the woods?
whip out your phone
google maps !
satellite sees all
secret agent man
advance ace scout
o if the Khan could see me now !
thousands of bullfrog young
crowding the swamps
at the edge of the road
what a motherless racket !
wow i just lost the pavement !
we're on gravel now, Baby !
rolling rolling rolling
seeing the world
through polarized sunglasses - everything shines !
hell yeah, Mongolia !
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.
