sitting with morning coffee
heavy mist, almost a fog out there
people with real jobs
zooming across the highway
helping the landlord get sandbags today
the rain washing the soil
off his neighbor's cornfield
carries it down the hill
right into his driveway, garage, & cellar
life on Tug Hill
sandbags & all

for some reason
this remark of yours
gave me an earworm of
Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show
- "Pack up the babies and grab the old ladies
And ev'ryone goes, 'cause everyone knows
Brother Love's Show" - ( Neil Diamond )

ain't been able to dodge it either
or drown it
or flog it
or dog it
don't even know
what connects one to the other

lights along the water's edge
picking out the beat from there
sometimes slow
sometimes fast
continuous
promiscuous
habitual
beat was
beat is
beat will be
underground the roots
reaching down
holding on
reaching down
holding on
loving to hear words
sand
tree
and storm
looking out the backdoor past sundown
to see if it's clouds
or stars
in the song
or in the talk

up here General de la Montcalm
during the French & Indian war
had to free some white prisoners
to satisfy his Indian allies
six were released
with boats for a headstart
up the river
only one lived to tell the tale
the other five were never found
neither body or bones
because no one ever went looking
& no one ever asked

when someone asks you in these lands
"how are you?" one of the possible midway answers
is "ok, or do I tell you?"
it´s a good beggining
for checking your luggage
& considerer what to do with it the rest of the day ...

say hi! to Winter in the sky
first stars in the indigo strip
no wind, cold but not too cold
perfect weather for contemplation
