dig the geese flying over honkin'
like a maze of new york cab drivers
i always stop what I'm doing, watch
them take off from lake montebello
wonder who named that lake, cause
they're ain't no mountains 'round there
the laundry is tumbling, I keep getting
distracted from payin' the bills, rather
watch the duck families swim all in a row
ducklings doin' what mama does, and
it seems like a good life to me, being
aquatic, playin' follow the leader
somethin' I was never very good at
I see a buzzard big enough to lift me off
the ground, he must be looking for dogs
or cats....or maybe he's just meditating
in the breeze, mellow on the warm current
he's the big cheese, el raptor presidente

been working every morning
cutting wood
afternoons on that roofing job
today i got paid in wood
five mornings of cutting & splitting wood
adds up to, by Tug Hill standard,
a heavy face cord & a half
that I get to load up
take back to the river house
unload
and stack
still will have to,
when it comes time for burning,
pull & split to useable size -
except for the big pieces -
those will be laid down on a bed of coals
to burn all thru a cold night
yeah -
don't know from experience
but it just may be easier
to live in Mongolia in winter
than here on the Tug
