Ron Carter

Post by saw » October 18th, 2015, 9:07 am

I wonder if Charles Mingus
ever cut his grass
hell no, he was jammin'
havin' a gas

doubt if Ron Cater
trimmed up his yard
hell no, he was practicing
workin' real hard

layin' down bass lines
hittin' his groove
while i was cussin' and kickin'
the damn Lawnboy to move

I was changin' the spark plugs
on the ole Briggs & Stratton
while Ron played the jazz clubs
in Detroit and Manhattan

while winning a Grammy
for Call Street Blues
I was loggin' in hours
in my steel-tipped shoes

eleven hundred weekends
since 1961
if I'd only had a yard man
I'd be number one
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Life passes us by
while we do our thing
For my John Deer
It makes me sing
"Important encounters are planned by the souls long before the bodies see each other." Paulo Coelho
