perhaps steel traps
can be pried open
with the civility of delicate fingers
a willingness to listen

to tunes never heard before
on AM radio, stories never read
in the backwoods libraries
with no Vonnegut

somehow we need to meet
you and I, in a cafe with strange food
we never heard of, taking a bite
of unimaginable from a menu in Sanskrit

acquiring a taste often lost
in the mule tough stances
of silly traditions passed down through
ignorance repeated like truth

why do we follow tired footprints
why do walk headlong into the swamp
quicksand is nothing but laziness
the dark fens of narrow interpretations

Yes I am reading old oriental poets translation hurts it some, but it is still strange and wonderful . We all need alien music and dance , speaking in jazz talk sheebam sam dam trap rap spree free meal seal the deal . The poem opened up my mental pores. A poets conversation when in frendly concert is a wonderful thing.

You'll never find toads in the swamps - too many hungry bullfrogs in there - toads do not prefer
