Everything sounds like the sea

Post by Doreen Peri » June 7th, 2016, 8:47 am

Everything sounds like the sea —
the breeze between the trees,
the neighbor's AC or heat,
the repeat revs, cars traveling down the street,
the breathe-ins and breathe-outs, the waves
of surety and doubt, the background music
in a movie memory.

Everything sounds like the sea —
the swallowed or inhaled salt air,
the dare percussion from some distant gravity,
pounding like it was meant to be
and then there is the whoosh whoosh whoosh
of the waves finally
hitting your feet

As you walk down a sand-spread lucid street,
your back a windshield to the downbeat
of a storm being born from a gutsy
memory, an artful maneuver of whimsy
echoing off wind-danced branches from
the other side of a scree.

I sit, open ears.
I hear, believe. I see.
Everything sounds
like the sea.

I can especially relate to this...having created this amazing space on the roof of my house where a magnificent elm decided to volunteer it's bending towering branches, with a view of the city lake near by, I trained my mind to turn the sounds of traffic on the front street into waves crashing on the shore...and never heard cars again

good to see you posting poetry kiddo....miss your writing very much
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading
