turning on the light
to check for rain
running up huge tabs
at the word banks
thinking of Arizona decades ago
where I saw the Indian ruins at sunset
these were not the grand things of tourist lore
but just a row or two of mudbrick & dry stone
sticking out of the earth
and I wondered if I
looked just like that
or maybe if I looked like someone
who would borrow money from a friend
to buy a used car to drive
across South Dakota
and then Montana
all the way to the coast
some Indians still lived there
and they had cars too
Cars Too
Re: Cars Too
the southwest has this romance to it......
it's like you can't tell a story about that area
that doesn't feel like a perfect snapshot
from a vacation that topped them all
Butch Cassidy,Thelma and Louise....
it also seems like my collection of stories about my life
all are put into context by the used car I owned at that time...

If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading
you may end up where you are heading

Santa Fe
the Navajo pull up to the town square
in their pickups & SUVs
set up card tables
to display their wares
for tourists like me
to admire & buy
in hopes of
absolution
