there's these couple songs
that have never left my brain
they reside there, and periodically
with no fanfare or announcement
I'll find myself singing them....but why them ?
out of the hundred gazillion songs why
just these couple of songs refuse to leave
and even insist on being heard out loud
at times....so what kind of jam is this ?
maybe rhubarb...I don't know, but the leader
of the pack ( and that's Not one of the songs)
goes like this " busted flat in Baton Rouge/
waiting for a train, " and well of course
we all know the song
and it was, and is, still a good song....but why that one ?
I'm sure the universe will never provide an answer
and I don't mind at all...it's just curious to me
So maybe this is the Curiosity Jam
If you do not change your direction

earworms
musical candy
sweet and satisfying in moderation
but not in overindulgence
woke up this morning
with Snarky Puppy on endless loop
the coda to "Outlier"...
other days it's been Lalo Schifrin
"Theme from Bullitt"
or Mahavishnu's "One Word"
or Don Ellis's "Samba Bajada"
and sometimes
I can't even identify it
just know that I've heard it
and it's locked in there somewhere
in a dusty cobwebbed file drawer
that somehow got jarred open
only cure I know
is to replace it with another...
i don't know though...
seems like treating the flu
by giving yourself a cold....

dreamzzz
the enigma of visiting
a magical place, no need
to drive all the way to Disneyland
when you can visit your own head
Grace Slick knew you had to feed it
the music back then ( does that make me sound old ?)
was teeming with revolutionary ideas
they challenged the structure and institutions
that dominated the times, Crosby Stills Nash
almost cut their hair, but they didn't
it was all there.. in the music, they asked
a lot of good questions like Why didn't I
cut my hair, what happened at Kent State.
maybe the simplest explanation was in that
first song i mentioned, Guess I felt like lettin'
my freak flag fly...yeah my parents thought i was freak
found marijuana in my coat pocket, thought my
friends were weird...well sorry folks, we all grew up
to be respectable members of society, had decent jobs
raised families, paid our taxes...we were just ready
for something knew, saving the trees, banning nuclear arms,
stopping that hideous war....listening to inspirational music
I never got that in Sunday school, and all those whoopin's
with the leather belt, well just meant I'd leave home at seventeen
I almost cut my hair....but I didn't....but i knew why...

I feel like I had breakfast with him this morning

a three egg , green pepper, cheddar cheese and polish-sausage omelet, 2 slices toasted heart healthy bread with fake butter and cherry preserves, 2 cups of coffee.
We talked about mother nature and paying our dues for the life we chose.

As far as I know, wireman is still here, why he is not posting I don't know. :(

I belonged on litkicks like a pearl onion on a banana split,
never forget always grateful for the kindness Mark showed me
tolerated my clumsy attempts at action poetry
sometimes made sweet lemonade out of attempts to break out of my self loathing.
made me feel like an authentic novice in Kerouac's school of spontaneous jam
I don't let go easy
from writers I love
I am still hoping my dark imaginings are just the childhood night mares that used to haunt the jack of nightmares

the big old dogs on the porch
can't teach them any new tricks
live free or die
we all want to go down rocking
but we don't always get what we want
I live every day on borrowed time
and grateful for the time we got,
believing there is time enough for compassion, love, redemption, and grace.
I jam on wireman still

wireman
wish I knew him better
knew him (sort of) as
mark
at arcanum
where we jammed
but I was just one
of many
just another sideman
(3rd violin)
just another extra
(man in corridor)
never saw his sculpture
and never knew
just how good he was

I contracted with Mark
to buy one of his extraordinary wire sculptures
but never got to see him as he had had his first stroke
but somehow he managed to give the piece to a friend
in Frederick, and so I headed up and found this young man
and now I'm pleased to say it hangs in a prominent spot
in my house, and always brings me joy each time i pass by it
and so even though Mark is not actively writing here
I hope he is reading ....for me the Wireman Jam is eternal
Jam on brother !

........ah!........well maestro let's talk bout instuments ........bred in the every boy get in a garage band early sixties beatle-mania craze.....started out as john in a beatle copy band......all of ten, we'd play teen clubs and school lunch time shows......this got me into the garage for sure.....it also turned me onto the up on stage....the kundalini rush that puts ya on the spot......sweating.....the do or die......the chance to fly.........after a couple a years this all wore off for awhile and the jock syndrome took hold....I guess it was in 1970 and my canned heat introduction to the blues that I finally picked up a harmonica and started studying my tony lil sun glover book, that I found the blues.....sonny boy ..lil walter.....sonny terry...howlin' wolf.....jimmy reed....amd BOOM!...off to the races I was...........at this time I read a book by sam charters ....the poetry of the blues and I believe it was this and a dose of jack that set me on my wired writing ways.....and o yeah...jim morrison too!.....well I played them marine bands for around 25 years wearin' em out whilst I wailed alone.....a blues hound ready to be reborn......and in 1996 it happend all the writing and all the playin' came to the fore and the up on stage came back ....that rush of spinal ecstacy set me on my WIREMAN ways for sure.......I got a train whistle and started using it in my act....next came a bamboo flute ....and an assortment of wood and cane whistles from all over the world.......I hooked up with any giuitar player who'd have me and played every chance I got ......jumpin in with my words whenever I could..............open mikes both perfoming poetry with or without music honed my skills and playing with a vartiety of musician taught me to let it flow........it was a poetry reading by amiri baraka that set me on the drumming path....he used the podium to create a primal accompaniment to his poetry that blew me away......needless to say I got a drum...now I've got a mini arsenal of djembes doumbeks and an asst. of other hand drums and percussion instruments......every solo
instrument has a performance in it....and I now have 2 kalimbas.....an egyptian mizmar........turkish spike fiddle.......snake charmer......and more world instuments are on my horizon......I love exotic sounds and every chance available to develop a poetic perfomance piece with em.......mark

Sasha I am trying to collect a playlist for wireman, I will post it when. . . .soon I hope.
His voice and music resonates with me, forgot where I read it but I do believe it to be true the birth of poetry from the spirit of music. Or as I think of it the birth of spontaneous jam from the spirit of music, wireman is a musician. Musicians are like demigods in my world.

looking for this one now

I've done quite a few shows with Wireman.
Love his music and his spoken word!
I miss doing the shows with him and I miss him, too.

I have the video of one of our Cabardio shows where Lrod and I interviewed him before his performance. He made a spontaneous wire sculpture of Lrod while he was being interviewed. It was very cool. Need to figure out how to get clips from from it. I don't have the software to do that yet.

they say time loves a hero
that is a pretty thought
I have no clue why I am here on litkicks/studio eight
Every post I make here could be my last
I seem to be writing a script for a movie I am in
along with my family and online presence

Studio Eight is evolving, we come and go
I miss the young ones that used to come here.
All I got left to believe in is the next generation
I am talking about a revolution, a cultural revolution, t

tomorrow we could wake up in a pile of smoke and ash
or by the grace of cosmic pooh bear we could be back in paradise

wireman my brother thank you for being a friend
you too my sister
