Plastic

Post by mnaz » January 7th, 2019, 3:33 pm

"Where are you, wanderer?"
"Vegas. You should see this trip."
"Almost went, then smacked myself."
"But it's the perfect plastic portrait."
"I see what you mean."

"Plastic was a wrong turn."
"History is a 10,000 year wrong turn."
"But the Plastic Age will finally do us in."
"Great garbage mountains and oil wars."
"The Stone Age had its wars, Iron Age too."
"But this time we'll drown in plastic."

"Don't fall for that ruse, wanderer."
"No substance in Vegas, only excess."
"All things disposable and illusory."
"Everyone should see this trip."
"Almost went there one time."

I felt like I'd glow in the dark if I went out in the desert...

Love how they blow up (down, actually) skyscraper hotels to put up even taller, shinier ones. The whole thing must be a shiny plastic mirage. A house of cards... That's why I love it I guess.

The great Kevin Costner's movie, "Field of Dreams" had this phrase, "build it and they will come" that's become the hook that makes Las Vegas what it is today.. a worldwide phenomenon that shows no downturn... yet!

Thought full write, mnaz... thoughtful piece. Well done.

Thanks Cec. (It started as another one of those conversations between "Ned" and I ...) The Big-Bright, Shiny American Mirage ... Vegas, the extreme embodiment. (That's why HST went there, a "savage journey to the heart of the American Dream," as he put it.)

Plastic ... Hyper-capitalism works. Really well. Really fast. (Try not to get steamrolled by it.) Now who's going to clean up the mess?

Ah, but I do love those bright lights out in the desert, beckoning wayward travelers...
