Flying Saucer Attack

Post by mnaz » August 12th, 2019, 1:26 am

I used to be into a sorta punk rock.
My first mixtape ('81ish) had the Rezillos.
"When they appear thru the stratosphere,
they'll be frying us alive" dadadadadadada
"Flying saucer attack," babababababababababababa ba.
"I'm never coming back. Oh, oh oh, once and it's over".
They liked to scare us with nuclear bombs back then.

....and they taught us how to hide beneath our desks

you may end up where you are heading

duck & cover drills, I remember those! I guess they figured those heavy school desks would help preserve our dental work for later identification - if there were anyone left to retrieve us

Here's a vid. The audience must be on 'ludes or something. (This helps explain all the dadada's and babababa's above...) I see I mixed up a few lyrics. Oops.

Yeah, I was gonna delete this, kinda silly ... On the other hand, probably no coincidence that UFO mania and monster movies peaked in the '50s, right after two World Wars and dawn of the Bomb.

Yeah, the Toho Studios films were definitely psychodramas enacted by the only nation ever to have been nuked. I was but a mere lad when "Rodan" was released here in the states - I begged my dad to take me for my 6th birthday. I had to cover my eyes when the giant ants came crashing into the heroine's boudoir. As bad as they were, I credit those and all the UFO & space opera movies with getting me interested in a career in science.

Probably no coincidence that the UFO mania sequed into McCarthy & the Red Scare, either. Damn those "Others"....
