Watch an old Chic video.
The LeFreak, old disco shit.
But the bass player plays the Funk
on a black and pearly white six string,
slappin' strings like Larry Graham from
his Family Stone years, other times like
rapid liquid like Bootsy or whoever played
bass for the JBs in '71 when JB took a break,
or even John Paul Jones of LedZep, though
he got caught in rock retread blues.

Love the slapping the bass

reason is over rated, as is logic and common sense-i much prefer the passions of a crazy old woman, cats and dogs and jungle foliage- tropic rain-and a defined sense of who brings the stars up at night and the sun up in the morning---
Re: The Old Discofunk
Yeah disco seemed like soul/funk going all soulless corporate, but Chic's Nile Rodgers (guitar) and the late Bernard Edwards (bass guitar) were fantastic musicians (and yes, pop stars) who went on to produce Aretha, Bowie, Madonna, Robert Palmer and MANY others. Rodgers is in the RocknRoll Hall of Fame and is chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame! The Funk drove their work ... yes, the dance thing, but they also lent the rhythm track that launched hip-hop ('Good Times,' swiped by Sugarhill for 'Rapper's Delight') ... but that's another story...

Did I mention I hate disco? Well I mean I should.
Oh, and Queen lifted Bernard's 'Good Times' bass line too, for Another One Bites the Dust... And I think even Bernard kind of lifted at least part of that riff from Kool & the Gang's Hollywood Swinging...
But yeah, that slicked-out late '70s stuff can leave a sugary aftertaste (and get stuck in your head), no doubt... And yeah, Flea & Frusciante, now That is a hell of a duo... god I love the bass guitar.

The Bass... And Tina Weymouth, Talking Heads (and Tom Tom Club). Really love her work, on Remain In Light in particular...
