blue cowboy

Post by saw » June 23rd, 2020, 10:32 am

what if I were a blue cowboy
from the outskirts of the numb wind town
and had this quirky little knack
for writin' pretty little gut-punch songs

and what if I thought my words could fix the world
before the sun come up, all rooster-proud and cocky
and believed if I sang soft and low, I could stop the pain
end the rain, raise the cane, stay in my lane

what if I was a rhymin' son of a bitch with just the right pitch
and I could slice those chords to pieces like Ginsu Joe
or how about Country Joe... when there ain't no Fish to be found
when all the lines get tangled in the eyes of the star-spangled

and what if I was that blue cowboy throwing boomerang words
out into the hungry-owl night where neon fireflies illuminate
the sky, and jackals turn tail, and the world just felt a little better for a spell ?
What a bunch of blue horseshit, we all know blue cowboys don't know how to rope a damn thing

much less a maverick mind........but still, .....what if I were a blue cowboy ?
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

you are off to a search how blue you can possibly be without tearing up...
the star rich skies so alive in the darkness cannot be measured, swollen
into the crunch and gulp of the steely eyed dreams we all enjoy one way
.... and even another... quolpet the loss where detours of the mind park.

(indeed)
