The mixtures of things, making for the mysterious. The call on the unknowable. The beginning of prayer.

me, I'm thinking an egg sandwich -
daughter has commandeered the kitchen since my operation
(and she's a damn fine cook)
but she doesn't appreciate the value of hot sauce
or unclarified butter
so when she goes out for her walk
I'ma gonna cook me an egg

no boots required
I was hoping you'd send me a line like that, judih - I'm saving it for when I open the cupboard to get the crackers out. I'll throw some on a paper plate spread them with chicken salad mix - pick up the plate turn around quick heading back to the computer and run right into the open door of the cupboard - the corner of it being the same height as my forehead - instead of cursing God & creation I'll just go ...

No boots required
no boots required
no - fucking - boots - required

just beginning to get light - sky heavy with cloud - I was told it would be sunny & warm today - the people who told me that either do not know what they are talking about or they are liars - it's autumn on Tug Hill, the less said about the weather the better -

It's been my experience that the National Weather Service can predict yesterday's weather with about 80% accuracy.

Some time back I made a long hike into the Quabbin Valley in search of the wreckage of an F-86 that crashed there sometime in the 1950s. NWS gave me a green light: "partly sunny, low-mid 70s". Great. Two miles out the sky darkened, & a light drizzle turned into a cold, steady downpour. Never found the crash site, but a ranger I met on the return trip told me I'd come close. She took pity on me & gave me a lift back to the trailhead.

Two days before my surgery, I laundered all my bedding and put them on the line to dry, based on NWS assurance of "mostly sunny, light NW breeze 5-10 mph". I had to race the rain getting all the sheets off the line, & still had to make a trip to the laundromat to finish the drying.

I guess the takeaway is that eyeballs out the window & an arthritic ankle are as reliable predictors of weather as the NWS.....

They make these predictions without taking into account local geography, Roy - fucks 'em up every time - around here the Plateau causes changes in passing weather systems - I think they should preface any local forecasts first with the warning "For residents of Tug Hill Plateau all bets are off"

Origins. Scrabble points. Idea. Abstractions of imaginations, the old dams left behind long after the mills are gone.

Friends who say your poems are like living in tents in the winter & your dog is with you. O yeah? Coffee.

Riding electric bikes on autumn nights. Half moonlight. More coffee. Maps of the next county over. Love affairs that become villages, a phone number written on paper and stuffed into a pocket - some fishermen fish at night.

Finding a set of rotting wooden stairs in a field, no building just the stairs - left me thinking the songs Led Zepplin. You might wake up some morning ... watching the story, turning the TV off.

Pets are so much more than just animals we keep - they're alien intelligences with souls of their own. If you've ever played foolishly with a dog, or lain next to one resting its chin on your chest and gazing into your eyes, you'll know that; you've felt the connection.

I don't like seeing dogs do "tricks". It demeans them somehow.

Thx for your read, Jack, I appreciate it - the rain finally broke here but it is dark as hell to the west - I don't think anything is over yet
