Bighead Steve
Bighead Steve
my skull weighed at least a ton
I couldn't imagine what had happened
but....when I woke up for my nightly slumber
I had this gigantic head on my shoulders
and it was heavy as hell lugging it down the hall
but somehow I managed to find the hot water
because I was thinkin' maybe heat would help
and the idea of a stroke never presents itself
but there are clues, I don't understand the written word
as I sit on the closed toilet seat staring at the crossword puzzle
so in retrospect I had thoughts, I thought I'd try to read
and I thought the warm shower might make this go away
sounds odd, because I also believed my head weighed
about as much as a Pacific Walrus, I think some instinct took over
temporarily....and I thought I should keep moving
and so I began to pace back and forth, and I thought
of the computer, and I concentrated on this thin black tower
with small holes in the side, to breathe, I surmised
and I realized...., I ...was breathing....and that felt good to know
I couldn't imagine what had happened

breathing, reading and typing feels good too
my nightly slumber comes interrupted about every two hours by nature's call
i wake up to one foot on fire as i limp towards the head
you are okay now i hope

reason is over rated, as is logic and common sense-i much prefer the passions of a crazy old woman, cats and dogs and jungle foliage- tropic rain-and a defined sense of who brings the stars up at night and the sun up in the morning---

Yes, keep moving. Breathe as deeply as possible.

Re: Bighead Steve
Very vivid descriptive poem!! I’m so sorry to read you went through this. How frightening!
Was it a stroke?
Was it a stroke?
Re: Bighead Steve
yeah doreen.....mini stroke.....they can't find out why ( Hopkins )......but MRI shows damage to left frontal lobe.....Honestly, I feel pretty good......back to my version of normal......but in the process, lost a great deal of my hearing......Went for a nice long hike along the river yesterday....life is good

Terrifying when something breaks and the machine just starts wheeling out of control. Since my own TIA, my balance is shot to hell - I can't look straight overhead without leaning against something for support. I guess these breakdowns are gonna happen more frequently the closer we get to The End.....
Glad to hear you've restored enough functionality to find a little spiritual peace in a riverside hike - too cold for that up here, but it's supposed to get up into the 40s later this week.

Re: Bighead Steve
Steve, I totally forgot that it was a mini stroke that caused the hearing difficulties. I’m so glad you’re ok!
