Subway disaster

Post by e_dog » July 14th, 2005, 1:03 pm

The police in Britain are apparently searching for a phantom fifth suspect, the mastermind of the terror plot. The news report i heard phrased this by saying that they are looking for the leader who is ultimately responsible for the bombing. If the authorities are really concerned to find the persons who are ultimately "responsible" they should arrest Tony Blair, as well as the persons directly involved in the bombing plot, because it is his participation in militant imperialism which predictably led to these tragic events.
I don't think 'Therefore, I am.' Therefore, I am.

participation in militant imperialism
I think you might have put your finger on the problem.
we need a new kinder gentler imperialism.

Watched interesting show on PBS, Conversation with Karen Armstrong. She said, when the IRA was bombing in London, nobody called them "Christian Terrorists" Seemed like she had a good point there.

This guy don't think much of her

I agree that the "Coalition's" trumped-up invasion and extended occupation of Iraq was, in effect, asking for this sort of retaliation at some point, no matter how much Bush and Blair tried to wrap up the campaign in humanitarianism, freedom, and security. Not that fear of terrorist retaliation should should be the sole criterion on which to base policy, of course. But this war was never sufficiently justified, and was pushed on the world via deception and distortion.

Now we are spoon-fed, insular, circular logic on a daily basis.... makeshift retrofit justification for the invasion, which I believe was counterproductive and misguided policy from Day One.... Our troops and scores of Iraqi civilians are targeted by insurgents. So Bush/Blair trumpet this as justification for the invasion.... "See, we told you there were terrorists in Iraq". But it was Bush/Blair's unnecessary heavy-handed approach which precipitated these events.

As I see it, one cannot use the violent resistance precipitated by one's own aggression as justification after the fact for said aggression.
