They stopped for a short break at Mr. Phoenix' place.
They ate all his food without saying grace.
They broke into his liquor cabinet, too.
Poor Pops didn't know what to do.
Phoenix was beside himself.
The kids just couldn't behave!
He yelled at them,
threatened the grave.
Pops apologized, of course,
but the kids had no remorse.
They laughed all the way out the door.
Pops promised he'd reimburse Mr. Phoenix
for the broken glass coffee table and more
stuff Sissy and Johnny had destroyed.
What else could he do?
Boys and boys wil be girls will be coy
and pretend it didn't happen at all.
"Let's GO!," Pops said. It was,
after all, his call,
and so they hit the road again.
Three miles more they rode.
Johnny kept pulling Sissy's hair.
Sissy kept screaming stop!
Pops stress level was on overload!
"Stop it!," he yelled, "Or I'll drive
straight to the cop shop and drop
you two off!"
"Where are you taking us to?," Sissy asked.
"Yeah, Pops. Where are we going?," Johnny chimed in.
"I'm not going to tell you. It is a surprise," Pops replied.
Johnny didn't like that answer
and stuck his two fingers in his sisters eyes.
