#4 Story Jam - Road Trip

Post by Doreen Peri » November 11th, 2005, 3:59 pm

It was a road trip like no other!
We were headed west, sisters and brothers
in the back seat fighting while
Pops tried to drive.
The traffic was horrendous!
It wouldn't have been nearly as bad
if there weren't so many cars!
Pops wouldn't say where he was taking us.
"Stop fighting with each other, " he demanded!
"I wish we'd taken the bus!"

Pops turned to slap Johnny pulling sissy’s hair
didn’t see the white dodge stalled there.
Slammed into the back so hard Johnny flew over the seat.
Broke every bone in his body when he hit the street.
Pops got out cussin running to see if Johnny was alive.
First time I saw Pops cry.

We stopped thru
at PalePHX's place
just to see his face-
and what he might do.
Lounging on his patio,
that natty 'ho,
he had cocktails for everyone.

Then off we rode,
careless and clever-
careering thru the weather.
For he had shown us how
to be here and now
however fast we were going

elsewhere
and with another-

Everything is simple as soon as you go through the complicated processes of figuring it out.

Pop was thinking, "what a god send. a traffic jam." he figures that it gives him a bit more time to spend with his children before he does what he has to do.

I was worried about producing a secondary pic since we're meant to riff on the first one. But it's a road trip, and it's a jam. I figured everyone was entitled to a rest stop. ;)

By all means, focus on the primary image. THINK HARD, dammit.

Yes my dear, just musing out loud,

And after the rest stop we all felt lazy
but Pops was talking crazy
wanting to turn back after the dream he had
we all got so damn mad
when he said Johhny was dead
we swore it was all in his head.

Finally talked him into driving again
We talked of the palces we'd been
that day and the places we hope to see
As happy as could be
unitl Johnny pulled sissy's hair

They stopped for a short break at Mr. Phoenix' place.
They ate all his food without saying grace.
They broke into his liquor cabinet, too.
Poor Pops didn't know what to do.

Phoenix was beside himself.
The kids just couldn't behave!
He yelled at them,
threatened the grave.

Pops apologized, of course,
but the kids had no remorse.
They laughed all the way out the door.
Pops promised he'd reimburse Mr. Phoenix
for the broken glass coffee table and more
stuff Sissy and Johnny had destroyed.
What else could he do?
Boys and boys wil be girls will be coy
and pretend it didn't happen at all.

"Let's GO!," Pops said. It was,
after all, his call,
and so they hit the road again.
Three miles more they rode.

Johnny kept pulling Sissy's hair.
Sissy kept screaming stop!
Pops stress level was on overload!
"Stop it!," he yelled, "Or I'll drive
straight to the cop shop and drop
you two off!"

"Where are you taking us to?," Sissy asked.
"Yeah, Pops. Where are we going?," Johnny chimed in.
"I'm not going to tell you. It is a surprise," Pops replied.

Johnny didn't like that answer
and stuck his two fingers in his sisters eyes.

Threatening the Grave

Daddy apologized,
of course,
but the kids had
no remorse.
They laughed all the way
off the floor.
Daddy promised he'd repay the Phoenix,
for the broken glass.
For the coffee table and more
stuff Sissy and Johnny had enjoyed.
What else should he do?
Boys and girls will be coy
and pretend they didn't employ
fire.

"Let's GO!" He said. It was,
after all, His call,
and so they hit the road again.
2000 miles more they rode.

Johnny kept mulling Sissy's hair.
I want it for myself!
Watch them erode.
Daddy's stress was on overload.
"Stop it!" he yelled, "Or I'll drive
straight off a cliff!"

"So, what if?," Sissy said.
"Yes, Daddy. Where are we goin'?" Johnny chimed in.
"I won't tell you. It's a surprise," Daddy replied.

Johnny didn't like that answer.
He stuck his two fingers in his sister
and called it 'macaroni.'

"The problem with Phoenix," Pops said,
"is he takes other people's words and
puts them into his own mouth."

"Well," said Johnny,
"Boys will be boys."

"That's no excuse for him or you, son,"
Pops said. "And you shouldn't have even begun
to eat all of his food and break his dishes."

"I didn't do that!," Johnny retorted,
"That's just the way Sissy reported it.
It was her who broke the dishes.
All I did was murder the fishes.
I fed them rat poison I found
under the kitchen sink.
Then I helped myself to a drink
of pop. Mixed it up with Canadian Club,
Pops. He had so much, he'll never miss it.
When can we go back to visit?"

ibelieve I just keep my place by following the links, lots of mp3, hard to stay on time when you don't write to the music, right now I have no idea what is the music playing right now. I am always one step behind. Sounds like disco,

so anyway, boys will be girls and vice a versa so daddy was going to say something something about the next trip to phoenix's casa when he notices the blue bubble gum machine flashing in the rear view. Dam they must have made me for the Lindbergh kid napping. He puts the hammer down and tries to run for cover. Sissy grabs a light anti tank weapon and blows the cop away.

Put the hammer to the wheel.

it is all down hill from here daddy says.

he who puts my words in his mouth must be nauseaus, mean boys, big boys little boys, skinny boys fat boys we all scream for Ice cream. thinking about love is a many spendoured voice/love

yeah ya got to listen to the music
I tell ya sister no problems

love is a many spendoured thing
still thinking about that one
fools rush in where angels fear to tread.
But I wonder if that is a rhetorical question.

going to repost the bottom half of this one to that one because I am rambling again. nothing to do with road trip

okay maybe this does
thinking about that family in the minivan headed east from the river towards phoenix. must have been so many people maybe nine in there. Bodies all over the road, he flipped it right in front of me about a hundred yards, I barely got it shut down before I started running over them. Dangerous time of day in the changing light. The driver fell asleep or got road hypnotized and dropped his left front tire off the pavement and into the sand in the median. He would have been ok, just rolling down the flat median, but he awoke with panic and jerked it back onto the road, as soon as the tires on the right hit the pavement he flipped a hundred times it seemed right in front of me.

A thousand million cars with kids fighting in the back, parents fighting in the front, they had to move on, so they zig zaged their way through the bodies. Arizona tropper showed up and got some respect for the dead and dying. Geez I felt sorry for all those good people in those cars who were trying so hard to get a look at the little girl with the glasss shard in her eye.

That is all way too complicated.... though if I'd known about those cocktails when I passed through Phoenix, it could have affected my choice of exits.

sorry my mind wander went something like this

it is as easy as a bridge, just get off at the buck eye exit, head on down to Gila bend. I have never found a good exit for Phoenix, spent so many days at that hell hole truck stop on buckeye road. Life on the road, it gets no worse than a urban truck stop. I found my home away from home at Tonapah Joe's and Alices mom and pop truck stop. Complicated, I should know better then try and post about a family. a father and children. Reminds me of a story about a road trip I was on. Crazy mike would make these strange friends at chess tournaments. Some were Nazi scientists from the rocket proving grounds in Aberdeen Maryland. Some were even strangeer like mr W. He had gone to jail for trying to cash in on the lindbergh baby kidnapping. He had nothing to do with it but he tried sending a note to see if he could get the great hero to send him some money. So anyway he invites Mike out to his big house on a river somewhere and Rose convinces him to take us kids along because it will get us out of the city for a day, a chance to go fishing, swimming. Well Mr W had these butterfinger candy bars in his fridge. We ate some. After we left he must have noticed the theft. He sent crazy mike a letter demanding payment for the missing candy bars. Or he would sue. Yeah complicated. but that is how my mind went.
