LC Don't Stop the Con or That's What Poetry is For

Post by mousey1 » March 2nd, 2006, 12:56 pm

"Thank-you for taking the trouble from her eyes
I thought it was there for good, so I never tried." Leonard Cohen

A little tribute ditty entitled,
LC Don't Stop the Con
or
That's What Poetry is for

"He wanted me to cut my con out"
to stoop down
to reach within
to reveal to him
that
which he had not earned
the right

My con
My shield and mask from harm

Ask
I will dance a tale
of marvelous lies

Listen
and my unguarded heart
will speak truth for hours

(For those fans of Leonard Cohen, I know there's one or two here,

he wrote the story of the last hundred years of my life

from memory:

some of us are still out on the strreet with no angels to keep us from the heat and no arrows of direction to guide our feet.

I suppose I should google those lyrics.

My membory not too good it seems
There's still one or two of us walking the street,
no arrows of direction painted under our feet,
no angels to warn us away from the heat,..

I have not listened to nearly as much Leonard Cohen as I should. Everyone keeps recommending him to me. I guess I need to go out at some point and buy a CD. Although I don't know where to start.

I love Leonard Cohen...can you tell? I like his attitude, his heart for things. He speaks to me. So many say that he comes off dour and dirging, but au contrare...au contrare...at least to me. He's grand!

Marksy I'd be more than happy to burn(shhhhhh) a couple of my favourite cds for you so you can give him a listen if you like. If it serves to turn you onto him I doubt he would mind. Let me know.

Thanks for reading.

Not sure if this woman is talking about the same Roshi as LC's

To The Best of Our Knowledge
from Wisconsin Public Radio

SEGMENT 1:

Writer and writing coach Natalie Goldberg tells Anne Strainchamps how two of the most important men in her life - her father and her Zen master – failed her, and why she had to write about it. Her memoir is called "The Great Failure."

A con is a good thing to have. And Kate Moses wondered about Sylvia Plath's masks. Poor old Kate suffering from a lack of imagination. She wondered who did poor Sylvia think she was on the cold February morning in London so long ago. Women can be such bitches to each other. Kate Moses cashing in on the Sylvia Plath Suicide Doll industry.

Yes it is good to have an alter ego.

But you cant shit the shitter.

On my tombstone will read..........

" Like a bird on a wire
like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way
to be free..."

Thanks for the link to LC's interview ST. I really enjoyed it. I find him to be so interesting, so amusing. I love his way, his style...always brings a smile. Such a thinking man. His thoughts are beautiful to me.

Artguy, great choice for an epitaph. It expresses so much and so beautifully simply. And I think we all try in our various odd ways to be free...
