Carl Sandburg's "Cartoon" - great dirty mother

Post by Doreen Peri » August 7th, 2006, 10:08 am

Because of high school email list [they found me], I once again met up with Shirley, a lady I knew way back when. She drove all the way up from Kentucky to participate in our Cabaradio show. She wrote her spoonerism version of Rindercella and read it on stage to the joy of the audience. It was really funny! Back in HS, we used to sing together at coffee houses. Last week, we sang together in my kitchen. I never thought I'd sing with her again. She makes me sound much better! ;) It was fun. The internet is amazing, isn't it? I never would have seen her again if it wasn't for the net. I'm quite sure of it.

We started talking about my paintings and she asked if I remembered "the great dirty mother" and I said no but when she described it to me, I remembered painting a painting to illustrate a Carl Sandburg poem back when I was a kid. She said, "I have it." I said, "You're kidding!" and she emailed her husband, asked him to take a photo of it and email it to me.

Here it is. My attempt at illustration from when I was probably 16 years old. Carl Sandburg's poem, "Cartoon." Just thought I'd share it. I said, "Wow! Is the blue border on 2 sides part of this piece?" and she said, "Yes." Ha! Why would I do that? Who knows. :)

I never would have seen this piece again if it wasn't for the internet, either.
