Clarity

Post by stilltrucking » October 7th, 2006, 8:58 pm

The highs get higher
The lows lower
Contradictions multiply
It is all a blur

Going so fast
I can’t keep up
I cast so many shadows
I hardly know where I stand

This will pass
I am sure
I am confident
I will see my way out of this
One day
Tomorrow maybe

I have a memory of the present
In a future will have been.

Worse things than sham I suppose.

These could be the good old days.

We take so much for granted

I don't think the human species will ever become extinct

Cockroaches and human beings are going to be around for a long time.

Even if we have to dig ourselves out from under a pile of smoldering ash.

We will continue

Maybe with some wonderful radiation induced new forms and colors.

Thanks for the good times here.
Yes he said it is ok if I use it.
I have not asked ettinger about hers. The one I wanted to use of hers was a shadow on a wall But I could not find it.

I am sending Ettinger an email requesting permission to use the image.

I'm sorry you don't, too, Jack.

Please either get permission & properly credit the artist, or remove the images. Sorry... I don't mean to be the "bad guy." Yeah, I could have sent you a private message but I thought it was better to reiterate for everybody's benefit that images have to be credited if they aren't yours and you need to have permission to post them. It was all posted here in the announcement and it's been posted other places for a long long time, jack...
http://studioeight.tv/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=8308

Let's not make such a big deal about it. Just credit the images, OK? Thank you! ;)

Jam on, brotha! :D

Thank you.

I have removed myself
links are posted to images

I realize now that I must not only stop posting here, I must stop reading here also.

That is a brilliant photo of Picasso by the way. Are you curious as to who the photagrapher is? Please don't make Kurt remove it.

I only post this as a courtesy to let you know I have listed links and permission for the images used.

Ettinger was kind enough to give me her permission

This is her reply to my email:
hi
as long as you put a link to the image source its ok with me,
best wishes,
bracha
as for the Picasso Cartoon
Unfortunately Richard "Mocko" Yardley is dead. He was a long time editorial cartoonist for the Baltimore Sun, my hometown newspaer. The website that posted the image did not credit him so this is the best I can do on that
a cartoon that I recognized instantly as the work of Richard Q. "Moco" Yardley.

Maybe I will see u on Freedom Hall. I love that place. Everybody goes on insulting each other. And calling each other queers. I think it is just the boys way of looking for love.
They excite each other and then kiss and make up.

I don't want no truck with it myself. But I need a place to do my existential strip tease.

No need to reply to this cause I am gone.

From the beginning ... when we started this place 4 years ago... we've always asked that you link to where you got an image that you've posted directing the viewer back to the source, thus crediting the artist or photographer. It is always best to have permission to post an image created by someone else and from the beginning, we've asked that you try to get permission to post and state that you have permission.

This is nothing new. It's how it's always been.

It is very LENIENT to ask for these small, simple internet etiquette practices.

SOME sites on the net ... MANY sites... do not let you post ANYTHING created by anyone else (images or words) even if you HAVE permission.

My view is different from the webmasters who run those other sites.

In my opinion, it seems to fit fine under the Fair Use law which says using words and images for educational purposes is OK. PLUS we are not making any money on the images. That, to me seems the crux of the matter. Obviously posting images here created by someone else is educational in that we are either discussing the images or we are referencing them to inspire creative writing which is clearly educational.
That is a brilliant photo of Picasso by the way. Are you curious as to who the photagrapher is?
As for Kurt posting the photo of Picasso, he removed the photo when I addressed this with him.

BUT I reposted the photo when I did a bit of research and discovered who the photographer was and linked to info about the photographer and a place to purchase posters with the photo of Picasso on them. As it turns out, the photographer is a prominent photographer. He deserves recognition and credit for his work. Hell, even if he weren't a prominant photographer, he'd deserve recognition and credit for his work.

I was not only curious but I'm sure viewers were curious as to who the photographer was. AND it is only POLITE, courteous, and good internet etiquette to link to the photographer and CREDIT the photgrapher.

We don't post anything around here without crediting the artist and as I said, this is nothing new AND is quite lenient.

So, if you want to leave and stop posting over this issue, that's entirely up to you. We cannot change internet etiquette & respect for copyright. And I'm not going to beg you to stay. Do whatever is right for you.

Please let me know if this means you would like me to archive your Artlog board. Thanks.

We love ya! Sorry you had a difficult time with this concept. I didn't mean to screw up your experience on the Jam. I only meant to continue the protocol we had already established.... which is respect for copyright by crediting the artist.

_______________

Just to close these comments... I have a few of questions to pose.

If you were a visual artist, how would you feel if you found a piece of artwork you created posted on the internet somewhere without a mention of your name?

How would Kurt feel if he found a piece of artwork he created posted on the internet somewhere without crediting him? With no mention of his name? No link to his website?

How would Zlatko feel about it?

How would Cecil feel about it?

Don't you think those artists would be a little angry that their images were used on a site they didn't even know about without a credit... without one mention of their names?

--------

All the best to you, Jack. We'll miss you if you are serious about stopping hanging around here.

I am cursed with a memory Doreen
I don't know what set you off about that jitterbug drawing
I thought it was pretty clear from the post that jitterbug was someone I knew well.

I have no idea how many times I have posted that doodle here ](supposed to be some kind of punctuation here but damned if I know what)many times I am sure. I wondered why now do you bring up copyright laws?

Many more times I am sure. But I just searched the first couple of pages.

I would ask you to make it easy on me and ban me. If perezoso why not me? Ain't I being a big enough ass whole? now.

Do what you want with the artlog.

Some how I feel special, you know singled out here. Probably just my vanity.

I suppose this is all about clarity after all.

Here's some clarity.

NOTHING "set me off" about the jitterbug drawing. I've never known who jitterbug was, though you refer to him a lot. I never asked. You said it was your brother. Fine. No problem.

Nothing "set me off" AT ALL. I am NOW beginning to get "set off". Why? Because you keep comparing yourself to an internet troll who damaged the experience on these boards repeatedly by badmouthing, belittling, mocking, and insulting everyone in his path. Do you think that type of person compares with YOU? I think not. So please quit asking me to delete you. Just stop coming if you don't want to come. As I said, we'll miss you but it's entirely up to you how you spend your time. I, frankly, do not have enough time to read all the links you posted, nor do I have enough time to try to explain this over and over and over.

I'm done with it.

Here's the bottom line. If you want to post here, fine. If you don't, fine. If you DO post here and post images, you must reference where you got them and credit the artist. It is best to get permission, however if you cannot because the artist is dead, for instance, or otherwise unavailable, please do the artist an internet-etiquette favor by CREDITING the artist & linking to the source of the image.

It's really pretty simple.

If you go to Image Posting Guidelines posted wayyyyyy back when Studio Eight first opened that board on November 11, 2004, you will see that we have ALWAYS asked that you give the artist credit.

This is nothing new.

I am not just now bringing up copyright laws AND it isn't ONLY about copyright. It's about RESPECT for the artist who created the image. It's about internet etiquette. It's about giving credit where credit is due.

Done.

See ya later.

Please quit asking me to delete your membership. If you stop posting on your artlog, I will archive it. As far as this conversation goes...enough is enough already. I just can't keep repeating myself over and over. I'm getting TIRED.

Peace & love.
