catch a prayer call
five times a day
that's a mosque in Azza calling

Over here, we have peacocks
catch a shriek 3 times each morn
that's nature sticking her neck out

When fields touch fields
and silent cotton grows
that's cooperation building

let it be

if you're wearing a pacemaker
stay away from the puter

big one, biggest one of the year
watch out, man

Weird cotton is from an arabic word:
algoton I believe: I once spent a few days with
arabic, the graceful calligraphic wall of Allah,
aleph null, the semitic freak verbs
though sent me back willingly to
to etre and avoir, ser y tener:
yet Algoton Bowl would seem
a bit odd in 'bama:
Minarets calling the word
of the Prophet 5 times
a day not so conducive to
contemplation

Saa' laam or Shalom
The Semitic is the
voice of Being
thought many:
Milton and Melville included

I taught in a quonset hut surrounded by
cali algoton, and laughed when,
contrary to expectations,
valley rains came in September
and the boys lost a few ticks off their
bushels for the damp commodity

grow yr own cotton

Nabakov can make words jump through hoops you never even knew existed
I never saw the movie

but after having the book for years and years

i sat myself to read it

now I know what writing is

when you can take hemmingways one true sentence and run with it

devoured the first sixty eight pages while

sitting in a sunny lawn chair

when a wild west texas wind

the book was so old the binding shot

pages scattered to the wind

as soon as I get the nerve or money

gone to try again

coo coo ca chew?
the twain of it,
wakes me up
john,
I was callin your
name
john,
civil morning
ended it,
sleeping
with visions
of words in my head,
is a thrill,
beyond organism,
now,
empty pockets
cram down my throat,
weary
i remember the holes
sharpening me,
my kick ass,
needs coffee,
wakes up slower,
than my imagine.

Daddy Bill B., reviled by suburbanites, hicks, and soccer mommies, (and he did have some moral failings), drew a fairly nice line between the Johnsons and the shits:

(when in doubt paraphrase)

The hard-core shit makes a career from
minding other people's bidness

a Johnson tends to his own bidness. He doesn't snitch if he detects pot or opium in the tenement. Ignores the local call-girls or fags

But he will give help when help is needed:

"He won't stand by when someone is drowning or under physical attack, nor when animals are being abused. He figures things like that are everybody's business."

"INCOMPOSSIBLE, adj. Unable to exist if something else exists. Two things are incompossible when the world of being has scope enough for one of them, but not enough for both --as Walt Whitman's poetry and God's mercy to man....."
