"If not for ignorance, there would be no history."

Post by stilltrucking » November 23rd, 2007, 1:23 pm

Just the other day, I discussed in some detail how the advocates of our current foreign policy have been busily channeling Woodrow Wilson, whose disastrous war to spread "democracy" and whose "ideals" inevitably led to a series of worldwide disasters.
The Wilsonian project derives from two convictions: that history has an identifiable direction and purpose, and that providence calls upon Americans to fulfill that purpose, which is the triumph of liberty. On Tuesday, the president reaffirmed his adherence to those convictions, declaring, "we accept the call of history to deliver the oppressed."

Interesting. Good post. Yes... "the arsenal of democracy", or something like that, wasn't it?

Unfortunately, widespread oppression seems to dog nearly every effort to "free the oppressed"... and these days, coming from DC, it entails multibazillion dollar no bid contracts to various booster death merchants.

And how did such a vision free the conquered, oppressed native people in the land of the free itself?

Bush believes in the nonsensical notion of the "end of the world".

He fancies himself the chosen warrior to lead us all to this "rapture".
(Crikey.)

As he and other easily swayed millions see it, the rapture will be what saves the oppressed.

I however, interpret this "rapture" as a cunning genocide attempt.
You may think my interpretation blaspheme.
But hey, back at you.

Can we still be friends?

PS (Rapture rhymes with crapture.)

Oh well I always get what I got coming
Onward. 8)

I don't know if it is about the rapture hester. That is the core of his support with the christian fascists but I think it is more than that. . I think the same people will be back in power in 2012. I think it is about greed myself. The rapture is just an excuse to get it while you can.

Mnaz I wasn't really trying to make a point about the sins of america. I just thought it was amazing that the Bush speach writers thought they were enhancing his reputation by calling him "Wilsonian"
And not just the Bush people, the main stream press was fawning over his state of the union address that year. Real Wilsonian I think David Brooks called it that too.

Wilson one of the five people I expect to meet in hell if that is what I got coming because of my heretical faith. Seems like there would have to be a hell don't there? What the hell else is going to control our beastly natures except the threat of eternal damnation.

To tell you the truth I don't see america as any worse or better than any other former empire.
Our hands are bloody, but I don't think we have caught up to those bloody British yet.

Yippee for Ypres

Cabinet, influenced largely by Smuts, gave its consent. The offensive was a disaster. The rain came. The artillery bombardment broke up the canals. Through deep mud and swamp and water the British troops staggered forward a few thousand yards. Over four hundred thousand men were killed or wounded, or drowned and choked in mud and filth. Nothing was gained and much was lost.

Now here is a little factoid you might want to slip into the conversation the next time you get into a discussion with someone about supporting the troops.
check it out. I wonder if the NFL does the same thing to their multi million dollar rookies.

I don't think I want to post to Culture anymore. Just not my thing anymore. Plenty of other places on studio eight I like better.

You mean the world is not gong to end in a whimper?

It won't be long now the cosmologists say. Things are speeding up as the universe expands faster and faster, only about ten billion years left till the big whimper. But you know we take science on faith too.

Einstein thought it was his biggest blunder but now some say he was right.

I hate google. Every time I think I am so clever I google what I thought was an original thought; say like "the big whimper" and I find 1,690,000 other people thought of it before me.
Dark Energy and Life’s Ultimate Futurethere is a confusing number of different models now, popularly called Big. Rip, Big Whimper, Big Decay, Big Crunch, Big Brunch, Big Splat, etc. This ...

Oh by the way mnaz
"the arsenal of democracy", or something like that, wasn't it?
wrong war, wrong president. Try FDR.

it was the great war,
the war to end war
the war to make the world safe for democracy.

oh well it doesn't matter
as George W Bush said about his DUI guilty plea
and the cocaine parties at Princeton

"That's just history"
