mnaz - definitely it is about getting the work out there! It can't possibly by about money. There's no money in it! Well if you were Steven King and you self published there's be money in it. lol ... But that's the problem with the "Infinite Tide" book. It's NOT getting out there. Not even to half people who are in it! You'd think everybody in it would want to announce it to their family and friends. That's my take on it anyway. That's what getting the art out there is about. Getting it out there. ;) Glad to hear you're moving forward with the manuscript. If you need any help with it, as I said before, I'm here.

judih, judih, judih (said in my best cary grant voice).... it truly isn't about being called names when I said I wanted everyone in the book to own a book , though I know I mentioned that. I thought it was rude when people called Levi Asher names like "opportunist" etc. when he published the Litkicks anthology. But I imagine people will do that so what can you do? To me, it's about giving a book to everybody who's in it because they should have one and because as the publisher, that's what I want to do. If they already have one, this plan is even better! They can buy another one and give it to someone which will further "get the art out there" as mnaz put it. And yeah, you're right, tax refunds are for spending however I like. This time, I want to buy everybody a book and with the balance of it, put a down payment on a car or a bathroom renovation. (Not that I wouldn't rather come out and play and spend it on a vacation in hawaii but these other things need to be done because it's what I want to do and need to do. &smile* :)

....

Hey Wireman... sorry to take your roll call thread off on a tangent. I was thinking everybody who's here had replied to it already so by making the thread longer, it would look like a bunch more people where here. LOL!

Here...quietly here but still here.

Dor, we bought two copies of the book and love it...gave one to our oldest son and he, who proclaims he "hates" poetry, loved it, especially the mtmynded parts. My thoughts on your buying copies for all those that participated...don't do it even tho it is a most (too!) generous gesture. Those that are in the book should support the book you so wonderfully put together and if they can't then maybe they could email you privately and you could make some deal if you feel you must, otherwise...let the parents of this child pay to see the show!!!

That wasn't quiet, was it?

Hey SooZ! great to see you!

The problem is that there are 30 artists/poets represented in the book and less than 1/3 own one.

Why is that? Is it overpriced? I thought it was priced comparably to other books the same size. It's definitely not a profit-making project. Even if 1000 books were bought, I wouldn't recoup the money it's costed to host the site for the past 5 years so... I don't get it if people who are in it aren't purchasing it because they think we're making a profit on it or something.

Then why?

Because they don't want to have to buy a book they contributed to? They think the publisher should at least give them a copy? Well if that's the case, maybe they're right.

I donno.

All I know is that I want everybody who contributed to the book to have one and I can't think of any other way to do it than ti send them the $ to buy themselves one. I don't know what else to do.

But honestly, I am not a wealthy person. It would be a strain but I'd do it if it's the only way they can all get a copy. I can't figure anything else out.

I'm so happy to hear your son loves the book! Thank you!

Hi Dor

When you publish an anthology such as the book and you have as many contributors as you do and you are the editor, publisher I think it is unreasonable to expect all of the contributors to get a free copy from you, even if they expect it. Sounds as if you have done your part and to be completely honest, I know from our local book publisher that poetry books generally don't sell well and even tho the owner is a poet but he publishes very few poetry books just for that reason. Your audience will be mostly the people in the book and if you give them away, who will buy them? Hard facts maybe but you need to take care of yourself first and going into debt or not using that money for something you NEED is not feasible or reasonable. Don't feel guilty Dor, you have done the very best you can and if some complain...remember some will ALWAYS complain...just know you have put together something wonderful and it is already a gift to those that were included. If they haven't bothered to buy a book for whatever reason, even though they are in it...sadly that is their loss and shouldn't be yours.

Think about doing something like a writing contest here or something along those lines where the prize is a copy of the book. Stir 'em up.
